It has been a busy couple of months for NASA's Cape Canaveral. After STS-211 there has been three important launches from the Cape. The first happened on May 8 and was the launch of the first piece of Artemis Program hardware. Artemis is NASA's return to the Moon program and the launch was that of the first in a network of satellites that will help keep crews in lunar orbit and on the surface in contact with Earth. The satellite, LTDRS 1, is a satellite that will map the Moon and provide extremely high definition photos of potental landing sites. The satellites that follow will be communication relay satellies for crews and unmanned craft, including LTDRS 1. LTDRS 1 entered Lunar orbit on May 11 and is performing as designed.
The next launch came on May 25 and was the launch of a Space X Cargo Dragon capsule. It docked with the SSF in order to bring equipment and supplies the will be used by the second Station Science (SS 2) crew to use the outpost. The crew was the third launch on June 4 and was on the manned version of the Dragon capsule.
Comming up in July, the flight of STS-213-LF7 flown by Atlantis and a different kind of shuttle flight. Endeavour, whom has been getting upgraded out at the Palmdale Shuttle factory, will be flown home to KSC on the back of the SCA. After landing at Edwards Airforce Base at the end of STS-210, the shuttle will be pressed back into service. Her first flight will be STS-212 in October and will carry more modules bound for the Helios Space Station.
