Got to hang with him on several occasions, terrific guy and a warm personality! He was also one of the few astronauts who raced (I think he mainly did Formula Vee). Last I saw him in July he said something like "yep, all my friends are dead". I'd like to think he's up there reunited with his buddies, having a beer on the Moon. Godspeed, Al.

He sure had the best sense of humor of any astronaut I've known.
And incredible insight and open-mindedness regarding humanity's place in the universe, informed and inspired by his unique experience.
I hoped to see him again this year and I'm grateful for seeing him twice in the past few years.

RIP
