Hello, I hope you're all doing well.

I asked about this on another thread and got some help, but decided to create a separate thread. This is an issue that has been occurring with Orbiter 2016 w/ the D3D9 Client & Earth high resolution textures. There appear to be ocean wave textures that surround altered scenery areas (Edwards AFB with the Antelope scenery pack, Boca Chica, Historical Spaceports, etc. I've verified that all of my Earth archive files match those on the orbiter website and that I am not missing any. I am using scenery resolution level 19, terrain flattening is on (though it doesn't seem to make a difference). This issue appears to only occur when terrain is at its max resolution. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Hello :salute:

have a look in your folder "...\ Textures \ Earth \ Mask \ nn \ nnnnnn" may be there are tiles with an undesirable alpha channel
corresponding to the "\ Textures \ Earth \ Mask \ nn \ nnnnnn" tiles of your zone.... ?

With n = number
nn = resolution
nnnnnn = area

You can try this :
rename your "Mask" folder to "Mask_off" (or what you want).
Then Orbiter works fine, but without mask-tiles (water and night lights)
and look at this scene again....

And tell me what happens...

Hi, Thanks for your response
I tried doing exactly what you said, and the result I got was that doing so made waves appear on a lot of tiles that they did not appear on previously. Also made buildings appear?

I did some messing around, and found that this issue only occurs when the "Surf" folder in Earth is in it. I'll see if I can mess with some of the undershadowing options on the base configs.

Sorry for reviving this very old thread. I am running into the same issue. This is Orbiter 2016 with the D3D9 client installed and the Antelope scenery pack. 1687726524626.png

No worries! Sad to see that there are others having this issue.

This issue seems to only occur if surface files are installed. Furthermore it appears to be fixed in the OpenOrbiter.

Interesting, I mostly deal with NASSP/SSV so I've yet to use OpenOrbiter. Sounds like good news

Has anyone actual found the cause and solution to this issue please? As I suffer with the same thing on multiple addons, and I'm no crack coder that can correct all these individual surf files. It only happens with the level 19 surf files for some reason?
Do you have to add these to the main Earth archive file to resolve it?

I haven't been able to resolve this, still an extremely annoying issue.

So now I've taken to installing the surf files from low to high and not including 16 - 19's, as it is even happen to the groom lake addon (and that's a recent build!) and boca chica, all levels do it. I've even installed all the DirectX packages to try and help and re-stall D3D9 v.4.26, which is supposed to be the most up-to-date.

I really enjoy using orbiter and try to use the highest resolution texture possible, as I'm using my 55" TV. Even if it's me setting my D3D9 client wrong...I could really do with some help please?

I'd say chances of this getting retroactively fixed in Orbiter 2016 are extremely low. This issue has already been addressed in latest Orbiter build, so I'd say use Open Orbiter?

Ended up getting an NVIDIA GPU, issue not present anymore. Not to say this is THE solution, just one of them I suppose :LOL:
