I hear alot of people talking on the forum about ''migrating here from the M6'' and ''looks like your getting familiar with the new format''. I would like to know what it is. Just asking out of curiosity.

Thanks, Stevodoran

Ahh, the M6. T'was just an older forum which eventually crashed, and the community migrated here.

Exactly. M6 was for a long time the home of the Orbiter community, until the community grew too large for the server.

Though the page no longer exists, the wayback machine has a cached copy of the front here.

The forum we have now is powered by a different engine - vBulletin (Specifically vBulletin 3.8.6 with some custom tweaks and a few modifications), while the old M6 forums were powered by YAF, a free forum engine. While they both do the same job, vBulletin is a premium product with a price tag, whereas YAF is free. The difference in quality is somewhat noticeable as a result.

And M6 was almost 6 years ago plus Tex and Tblaxland have done a fair amount of work adding features and customising things. We should also thank the graphics staff for adding additional content.

Indeed the old forum simply outgrew the hosting M6 was offering Martin and the database became so clogged for a free forum software option that the search function rarely if ever worked. It was after the server crashed for more than a week when the majority of the community migrated over here. I talked about that event in my older blog post here.

Heh, I count 36 installed modifications... :download: Some of those were made by the vBulletin mod community and others are custom written scripts by our resident tblaxland and myself (mostly Tim though :p).

I haven't been around much for a year or two now, but are people from M6 still only discovering OF now? I would have thought most of them would have made their way over a while ago.

Heh. That reminds me of one old thing.
There was no preview function on even-older M6, and no comprehensive manual on tags, so:

And what can we see on that page ?

A question in the:

Orbiter Web Forum
