Hello,

I am new to Orbiter Simulator and I just recently downloaded it today. I set up all the parameters and video settings and launched the simulator. I can move around for 5 seconds and then my computer freezes and on the window is says Not Responding. What am I doing wrong?

Here are my Computer Specs:

Dell XPS L502X
Windows 7 64-bit
6GB RAM
750 GB Hardrive
Nvida Geforce GT 540MT Graphics card
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz

can you post the orbiter.log file?

Directories are the folders on the computer. So did you install into c:\orbiter for example or c:\program files\orbiter

Try going to the Video tab, check the checkbox for Always enumerate devices, then pick the device associated with your NVidia GeForce GT card. From your log file, it appears to me that it's trying to use the internal graphics adapter.

I installed it into program files.

blixel: It's already checked and my Nvidia graphics card doesn't appear in the drop menu.

The next logical step is to update your video drivers. (Sorry if that sounds unhelpful)

Ok I got it working but now I don't know how to get the craft off the ground. The keyboard keys don't work even if I change them. I have a laptop and the manual shows a diagram of a desktop computer keyboard. I don't think I'll be able use this simulator.

Yeah - it's a real pain to try to fly Orbiter on a laptop keyboard. Doable, if you know what you are doing, but hard.

You can try something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Syba-Numeric-Laptops-Manufacturer-CL-USB-NUMSPC/dp/B002C8B1RO

... which gives you the critical numeric keypad keys for thrusters, main engine, hovers, engine cutoff, and toggle rot/tran mode. Or - you could buy a simple USB full keyboard and plug it in when playing Orbiter.

Oh yeah I could do that. Thanks

Another redeemed Orbitnaut for the ranks! :)

I plug a USB keyboard into the kiddo's laptop and Orbit to my hearts content. Her laptop keyboard is normally fouled up anyway with cookie crumbs and other bits of mystery food, so the added keyboard is almost a requirement anyway.

It started freezing up again. I had to cold boot my computer 3 times in a row and every time I did it I changed some setting in Orbiter but it still didn't work. I have come to terms that my computer just won't let me use this simulator.
