I'm trying to see if I can get more performance by using my Nvidia GeForce 1050 GTX in Orbiter, but the launcher only detects the default Intel graphics card (in the video tab).
Task manager also confirms that the Nvidia GPU isn't being used.

Is it possible to get other graphics cards to handle rendering from Orbiter?

Is this a GPU you just installed? Are all the drivers up to date?

Try this
Windows Search -> Graphics Settings -> Custom options for apps -> Browse -> Orbiter_ng.exe -> Options -> High Performance
I did that but with Orbiter.exe instead and it didn't work. I suppose with Orbiter_ng.exe it will behave the same, but I'll try that anyways

Are you using Orbiter zip archive or the installer? In my case with zip archive I had the same issue as you but with installer it was able to detect.

Are you using Windows 11?
Here the allocation of the GPU is controlled by Windows itself.

Settings - Screen - Graphics, then you see a list of apps with their assigned graphics processors.
(The wording of the items above may be a little different, I use a non-english Windows.)

In this case (orbiter_ng.exe) remember that orbiter_ng.exe is just a launcher for its real exe, found at Modules\Server\orbiter.exe

I tried with both but still no detection.

I'm using windows 10 and I tried that method and still nothing.

Even with this .exe set to high performance doesn't work.

Laptop

Currently DX12

DX12 is the best that your hardware can support. However the Orbiter currently uses only DX7 or DX9.

I guess you are on DX7 and the computer refuses to run it via 1050GTX hardware. You could try to install DX9 based rendering client which should support 1050GTX.
Read "Install" and "DirectX Runtimes" sections carefully before downloading. D3D9Client

Nice, the D3D9 graphics client worked
