YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Finally! Ups, sorry. I just turned into a kid again :p😂

I didn't log in to Steam for some time, until today. Just figured out that Crystal Dynamics is remastering the old Tomb Raider games. Part I - III is already released...

Now I only have to buy tons of frozen pizza, and the 90's are back.

:hailprobe:

While this has really good tips for beginners (especially the: Don't fear the STL parts of it), pay attention though that some examples modify the run-time behaviour. Generally, its better the way presented there, because it is better readable code and adds some more layers of error handling, if your program is supposed to be fast or fit into an embedded system, you can decide to drop the extra layer of safety and do that "before compile time".

Also, the left-to-right order example is poorly choosen, since the functions really depend on the results of the function left of them. They would never have behaved different. But its a good warning, because C++ is still allowed to do wild things with your code when optimizing, they just forbid some extreme cases. Contrary to Java and many other languages:

C++ HAS no fixed of order of evaluation!

Any compiler is still permitted to do his own thing or even decide how to evaluate things differently depending on the situation.

I mentioned it before here, here is a short documentary about the Alfried Krupp capsize in 1995, released just today:

I feel so sorry for her bad experience that day. She wasn't ready for a solo. But the controller was nice...

What a contrast:

Magellan, the folks who got photogrammetry of the Titanic wreck a few years ago, are finally letting people mess around with the results. Vid by Oceanliner Designs exploring the bow:

It's on Steam, Early Access. Only the bow section is in so far, they plan to add the stern and debris field later.

This is a lot better than spending $250,000 for a one-way ride in a carbon fiber toothpaste tube. :(
