ORBITER-FORUM will be temporarily closed at 2026-07-23 18:00 UTC while we complete some OF maintenance tasks. The amount of downtime is expected to take up to one hour, but probably less.
That was... less bad than expected from the thumbnail, I guess (if I wouldn't understand the lyrics, it might be downright catchy...)? Also a bit of a black swan event. I had never considered an intersection between Schlager and "Neue deutsche Welle" before, but in hindsight I realize that it...
There comes a bit of a hickup here.... Essentially, MFDs are not part of the API. It's going to be difficult to get data out of them. Now, for sure, all the data the MFDs get from orbiter, you can get as well. But you can't get at the data an MFD itself calculates unless you have the source code...
Finally got around to making a decent background image for the station with which everything started (i.e. of which I made the first primitive proof of concept to see if I could actuallly get anything halfways visually appealing done): Argosy colony, the stanford torus in high earth orbit. Well...
I honestly would be surprised if they did. The realization that "clear error messages save our customers money and should therefore be a priority feature" is significantly younger than gcc...
When your Son comes excitedly and yells "Dad, Dad, look at this awesome game I found!" and you take a look and go "uhm, yeah, I know that one. I, uh, made that model there... some 20 years ago, I think?"
Programmer: "Huh, I flipped the order of the position and velocity calculation, now the orbital simulation is much more stable!"
Mathematician: "Hold my beer..."
I've finally managed to wrap up all the loose ends for this release. New station (see above), quite a few new codex entries, but most of all completely overhauled job generation and UI. The game now feels more friendly to play.
More details in the patch notes...
After some thought, some reading and some waiting for inspiration that finally suddenly struck, I think I came to a conclusion.
Since the whole thing initially is literally based on a credit system, it seems natural that the word credit would somehow be entangled in the emerging currency, but it...
I had planned a release today, but life had other plans, not going to make it. So here's a picture of Akshaya Patra, orbital farm extraordinaire, for now:
In short, yes! In order to not drive both the developer (read: me) and the players crazy, It's important to have only one currency in the game. There are certainly other currencies around in the world, but only one the player should have to deal with while conducting their orbital business...
I've never done this specifically, but I would expect that this value must have the extension included (i.e. "file.dat"), but I'd really recommend naming it something more descriptive. Also, pay attention that the path seems to be relative to the config root folder the cfg is found in, not...
Anybody up for a bit of creative brainstorming on the name for a scifi currency?
Here's a rough summary of the situation:
There's an orbital population of some two million people, but it's disconnected from earth for several decades due to "a minor Kessler event".
The offworld population is...
Stumbled accidentally over this old OVA on youtube: Mighty Space Miners, originally planned as six episodes, unfortunately only two got made. So the story isn't concluded. But the two episodes that are there are really quite good!
