ORBITER-FORUM will be temporarily closed at 2026-07-23 18:00 UTC while we complete some OF maintenance tasks. The amount of downtime is expected to take up to one hour, but probably less.
Yes ! Cassini-Huygens, Juno, New Horizons, Curiosity, Opportunity, a black hole, gravitational waves, JWST.... Those last years we have "seen" many beautiful things, this is amazing !
If there's a crack, i hope it's not another falsified material certificate problem... This piece of paper has already costed a lot to the aerospace... ESA and Roskosmos had lost entire rockets because of that.
I think the Mk4 will depend on further development of the Ion LV's family. A heavy version with solid boosters should be required, with an adapted launchpad. Very expensive operations for the agency... ;)
Hmmm... Easy ? if you think about the gravitational and atmospheric constraints, yes. If you think about the logistic and industrial parameters, far less easy. And if you think about money... Assembling (manufacturing ?) in undergroud facilities, providing energy, fuels, materials, life support...
Ok, just launching the ISS mission right now. Reporting soon. 3,2,1... Wooosh !
So, this spaceplane is damn good ! Just when i reached the ISS (align plane 0.00, 72 km dist), i've had an engine failure ! Impossible to stabilize and break the RVel ! Mission abort... I think i'll have something...
Yes, that's what i mean. As i said, the provided lighting does the job, but it could fit well with this kind of vessel, with all those needles and switches.
For the FPS drop, i'll check how it changes depending on the distance from earth.
I'll make the ISS mission this week, and will try to be closer to nominal for operations. I'll report about alarms. I have a joystick.
For the panel lighting, i guess Urwumpe speaks about retro-lighting ? That's...
Oh yes, it reminds me something else : when i changed the view (Ctl + arrows), the orbit MFD, and base sync MFD are reseted to their default parameters. Not a big problem when everything is nominal, but could be a problem in case of emergency. I've found a trick : i used F8, ajust PROJ, DIST...
Hi. This is a very good addon. I've made the first mission, it was very immersive and everything works fine. As Urwumpe said, a panel lighting could be a good thing. Another thing could be useful : an alarm control panel. During reentry an alarm rang, and i took me some time to see i was at 10%...
Hi. It could be a good thing to go to the simple version as stated by Urwumpe, and why not develop a more complex version later, as an optional choice, like a patch ? I think i'd choose the first one, because i'm not good at electricity. But i'd give a try to the patch, as it could teach me...
Who would not ??? I've first known the addon, then i watched the show. Two great discoveries. And i think i'm not the only one who dreamed to see this beast in Orbiter 2016. Let's hope there'll be enough people to give you the strength and motivation.
I know there were an old Hermes addon for Orbiter 2006 (as far as i remember). You'd be able to find it on Pappy's Hangar (french site to download Orbiter addons). I don't know if the airflow is usable, but well... it exists.
Hello 4throck.
I agree with you. But in the "good ol' past" there was a bigger feed-back from random users like me. From my point of view, today, this feed-back has almost disapeared. When i read the forum's topics, i see developers speaking to developers about developing, and the feed-back...
Well, Dan's decision (back to the topic) to not let his addons open source is obviously arguable. But, even if he lets it free to use, and a developer wants to update it, he would have to get the author's authorization to do so. Even if i'm not (by far) the most active member of this community...
Hi.
Here is the link of OF if you want to find addons working in Orbiter 2016. It's maybe not up to date.

Hi !
I don't use TransX, i use Interplanetary MFD (IMFD). A good advice for a direct mars mission is : make a correction as soon as you're out of Earth's SOI. Then, when you do the plane correction (if needed). After i use a trick : i look regularly at the AutoBurn (AB) screen. The burn duration...
