Actually the sound is from the movie "Apollo 13". I don't think it really sounded like that.

Flight Question 2Qs,about earth to Venus and other "going in" trensfer

I have an amusing story abut this very thing. (kinda long, but bear with me) I was taking a 400 (senior) level astrophysics class at Arizona State University where I worked. The professor knew all the math, but was a little short on practical details. i'm just the opposite. Anyway i ended up...

Problem Flying LRO/LCROSS, Atlas launching into the wrong plane?

I tried and was unable to duplicate the problem. A late centaur ignition may have been the problem. The timing is a bit critical. The late TLI shouldn't be a real problem as long as there is enough DV left in the centaur for the LCROSS course correction. Setting up transx for the proper LCROSS...

Problem Flying LRO/LCROSS, Atlas launching into the wrong plane?

I wrote the docs for the LRO/LCROSS addon and they should be historically accurate. The Atlas did indeed launch into an orbit which was not coplanar with the moon, but did intersect the plane of the moons orbit at the correct time, so my first guess is that your Tej needs to be adjusted. I'm...

    Mass Effect drive discussion

Wouldn't negative mass be antimatter? it is definitely known to exist, if only for very short periods of time, and definitely not very much of it exists at one time, at least here on earth.

    Challenge Aldrin cycler

Here's the challenge: create 2 Aldrin Cyclers, one inbound (mars->earth) and one outbound (earth->mars). Use some sort of station SSBB, ISS, whatever for each. Launch a DG (or XR2 or whatever) dock with the outbound cycler, ride it to Mars, land on mars, drink a few beers or whatever, then...

    Lissajous orbits

I just posted this http://orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=23000 in the challenges thread. It's a link to an article about the ARTEMIS spacecraft which entered a lissajous around Earth moon L1, the transfer to Earth moon L2, then to orbit around the moon. I included links to a couple of...

    Challenge ARTEMIS challenge

I saw this article today http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-06-artemis-spacecraft-lunar-orbit.html This looks like an interesting challenge. From some earth orbit (Geosync maybe?) transfer to a lissajous or Lyapunov orbit around Eath-Moon L1. Then do a minimum DV transfer to Earth-Moon L2 orbit...

    Updates ISS UPDATES

I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet. This is way beyond cool! It reminds me of the time John Jenkins and I were hiking deep in the Superstition mountains. He hiked half way up Bluff spring mountain, and played his flute, harmonizing with the echoes from Music Mountain. Oh, how I wish I...

    Orbiter Wiki Cleanup

The LRO documentation can be removed from the wiki. It is incomplete and outdated at this point. I would also like to thank Urwumpe for letting me use the wiki to develop the docs for LRO. It was a fantastic resource for that.
