Apollo to Mars or Venus

Has anyone managed to get Apollo to Mars or Venus? Any tips you might have, or scenarios you could post? I was trying earlier with AMSO (alas, NASSP doesn't seem to work with 2010 P1) but got a CTD when I tried to initiate the ejection burn; I'll try again tomorrow...

Did you try it with Patch P2 for AMSO 1.19 which was compiled against 2010 P1 SDK?

Hello, I be the one who made Manned Venus Flyby. I use a Saturn V standard (76% fuel in orbit), with a launch azimuth of 72 º. The problem is that there is not much fuel for maneuvering, so I made corrections to the SPS engine of the CSM, and returned near the Earth had only had fuel for fuel just a small correction and landing at the South Atlantic. Sure, the 15 ton LM, imagination I saw them as supplies, water and equipment.

Saturn V with a standard, it is not possible fly to Mars, even discarding the S-IVB. He had thought of that remembering the movie Capricorn One, but it has enough fuel to get there.

I hope they can get NASSP working again. I loved manually flipping the switches and stuff.

Update: I just tried it with P2. I was using IMFD 4.2 to plot the course. When I hit the button for auto burn, I got a CTD.

Going to try it again, this time with a manual burn.

So this is an issue of IMFD 4.2 and not AMSO. Is it version 4.2.2 for Orbiter 2010? Can you check if it's the same for IMFD 5.5?

IMFD 4.2.2 is outdated. It is available primarily so people can get the documentation, as that version of the manual contains information not present in newer versions of the manual. IIRC, IMFD 4.2.2 uses some old opc functions that were depreciated years ago, and may no longer be supported by the core.

IMFD 5.3 is much more accurate and stable. It is well worth the small effort to upgrade, the differences can be learned in an hour or two.

I'll try... but I haven't figured out how to use IMFD 5 yet. When I plot my course like in IMFD 4, and have the MFDs in shared mode, and go to Orbit Eject in the other MFD it says it gets no data from the Course program. Not quite sure what I'm doing wrong... yet...

Well, I finally figured out IMFD and tried a mission to Mars. I actually got there, but didn't have enough fuel for a circularization burn, much less a trip back home. I'm going to try it again with a slingshot though; I might make it home that way. (Why I didn't think of that the first time, I don't know.)

What really comes home in this case is the final refuge of three desperate envoys of mankind who were sent on a three year long mission in a craft designed to last only a fortnight. BTW, thank you all folks for this twisted but brilliant idea, adding it to my to-do list (together with some rad hazard calculations to discourage interplanetary travelers).

Meh... slingshot didn't work out too well. Oh well, the guys would be long dead anyway, I don't think they could pack that much food, water and urine bags into the LEM... I guess Capricorn One had a better idea after all.
