Auroras

It seems there was a pretty huge aurora last night. I've never seen the auroras and want to, so I've just signed up to this site to get emailed (or twitter) warnings the next time it's likely to be visible. Unfortunately for you folks abroad it's just a UK warning so may warn you during the day when it's sunny (though in the UK it's likely to be cloudy anyway).

Universe Today: Dramatic Rocket Launch Into an Aurora

A two-stage Terrier-Black Brant rocket arced through aurora 200 miles above Earth as the Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling in the Alfvén resonator (MICA) mission investigated the underlying physics of the northern lights. Stage one of the rocket has just separated and is seen falling back to Earth.

Those are wonderful. I haven't seen them out there, but only through videos or movies and pictures like those. I think it would be a rare occasion if it ever appears this far south where I live.
