Hot Fire Test 2 was a test of the B6-4 solid rocket engine. The first selected date of the event was Sunday, June 28th, 2015. As the day progressed, it became apparent that the weather was not going to allow a good test, and therefore it was scrubbed (see previous update). The test was rescheduled for the 29th, and as the day started, the weather was in perfect condition for an engine burn. AESD technicians reset the Operations Complex 1A for the test. The 1A complex is the same complex as used for the Hot Fire Test 1. The B6-4 motor, larger than the A3-4T, was loaded into the test rig, and the countdown commenced, starting the engine fire. Now, the AESD is analyzing the data from the test to understand how solid rocket motors work. Soon, the AESD will be starting their SOLO program, a program to test solid rocket engines in powered flight. Using the data from this test, AESD technicians will be able to more safely conduct engine operations.
