There's a "fluff" video that recaps DARPA's programs against a background timeline of the US perception of security concerns during the agency's history.

As the AvLeak author points out, DARPA hasn't always fulfilled its motto of "bridging the gap" -- letting good programs go unfinished for lack of "customer interest." But, compared to NASA, DARPA has a great track record of doing what NASA's predecessor did -- work on cutting edge technology up through the demonstration phase, and leaving the actual operational implementation to others. At least in the aerospace field, DARPA is what NACA used to be, I think.
