TECH NEWS: Facebook, the social network now more than 1.25 billion users strong, is about to become the first virtual community to obtain a seat at the United Nations.

"It's simply too big to ignore," a representative stated "and it's a fact that Facebook has done a lot to improve relationships between citizens of different countries all over the world."

While Mark Zuckerberg has not been available to comment yet (or even LIKE), the company's chief operating officer has reminded journalists that "... Facebook was started to not just to be a company, but to fulfill a vision of connecting the world".

They should unfriend Russia:)

They did, and it turned out ugly. :(

GRID NEWS: the tensions that have been rising in the past cycles following a mass-unfriending by Western against Russian users have exploded overnight as Russian separatists have overwhelmingly voted for separation from the virtual community in an online poll. An immediately following vote has asked for formal annexation of the Russian users-inhabited Facebook area to the Russian social network VK.

Claiming that western users have been running "oppressive tasks" against their community, Russian users have taken to the routes, shutting off crucial data nodes with makeshift firewalls built out of Tetris blocks.

A protest leader going by the name of "Troff" stated: "we fight for the Russian users, that's all there is to it. The rest of the online community should be made aware we're dealing with anti-Russian extremists here that go from neo-Nazi groups to furry deviants. They sent in even some emo refugees from MySpace, and if any IMVU members get involved it's going to get ugly. But we're taking 'appropriate measures'."

Those "appropriate measures", according to backlog reports, seem to include a fully functional T-72 from a tank sim that "will never ever run out of ammo thanks to a cheat we know" as claimed by an unnamed separatist. But other sources indicate otherwise: "all those rebels have are a couple of 8-bit tanks from an Intellivision clone. They're generations out of date but can still hurt people as long as they only move on 2-dimensional terrain."

Which seems to be enough to cause damage: "any user with Farmville propriety is very scared right now. 8-bit shells do not seem much to those million-polygons folks out there but it takes just one to take out all your tomatoes and they take hours to grow!"

While reports are still scarce and contradictory, so far claims of "dozens of victims" have gone unsubstantiated although there has been at least one confirmed deresolution as a car sprite tried to force a roadblock and crashed against a building. "Sprites against meshes, you know what happens and those old sprite-based games' explosions never leave any survivor. It was horrible." one eyewitness stated.
