"Lewis Hamilton took a 100th career pole position by edging out Red Bull's Max Verstappen in qualifying at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Hamilton's Mercedes was just 0.036 seconds faster than Verstappen, who was in turn 0.096secs ahead of the second Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc pulled out one of his trademark stellar laps on his last run to take fourth from Alpine's Esteban Ocon.

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz was sixth ahead of McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo.

The second Red Bull of Sergio Perez took eighth, nearly 0.8secs adrift of Verstappen, with McLaren's Lando Norris and Alpine's Fernando Alonso completing the top 10."

A bit dissapointing to see Ver and Bot not being able to finish their laps. But tomorrow will be an interesting race I think.

Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Baku City Circuit, Baku
04 JUN - 06 JUN

"Ferrari's Charles Leclerc took pole position from Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in a thrilling qualifying session at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Leclerc set his fastest time with the help of a slipstream from Hamilton, and a red flag on the final runs secured his second successive pole.
Hamilton recovered superbly after a difficult weekend for Mercedes while Verstappen will be ruing his luck.

The session had four red flags after a series of crashes on the Baku track."

At least the start should be good.

The best part of qualifying are the final laps in Q3. Too bad that part of the session couldn't complete two times in a row now.

Hopefully there aren't going to be too many flags tomorrow and we'll get some good racing.

Lewis recovered that well, the Merc hasn't looked happy around here all weekend. Will be interesting if he can keep Max behind him down to T1

Ver will stick his elbows out again if given the chance. Ham knows that a collision won't change the standings and he can get the lead again later if necessary. I love to see strategies play out without safety cars. But that's probably wishful thinking. It did happen in Monaco last time.

What the hell happened today?

Super happy for Seb, anyway! Quite a poor showing for Pirelli, though.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen took an impressive pole position ahead of title rival Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes at the French Grand Prix.

Verstappen, who has looked the pace-setter all weekend, beat Hamilton by 0.258 seconds for the Dutchman's first pole since the opening race in Bahrain.
Hamilton was 0.128secs clear of team-mate Valtteri Bottas with the second Red Bull of Sergio Perez in fourth.

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz was fifth ahead of the Alpha Tauri of Pierre Gasly.

Well, a clean start except for Verstappen who went off track! Second place now.

Whats with the blue/white pattern. Looks like a ploughing competition?

Just about to start.

Safety car out. Verstappen pulling ahead, Hamilton trying to get to third place.

Notebook, I've been out of the loop for a bit. Glad to see you’re keeping this thread goin‘. I think we’re seeing the effects of the 2020 rules change combined with the spending cap. The teams were forced to turn to 2022 development much earlier in the season than usual. Mercedes came out of preseason testing with an uncompetitive car. Perhaps they had to spend more to get it up to snuff and Red Bull (along with the other high-rake cars advantaged by the 2020 rules) spent less.
Mercedes had a remarkable 7 year dominance but it seems to be over. With that said, this season has been scintillating! With the exception of Monaco (which serves as the fashion plate for the sport) the races have had good fighting up and down the grid. What more could a fan ask for!

Thanks Bensisko, when I remember I do.
Its the kind of sport that benefits from researching and following in depth. I did in my teens(Clark, Hill, Surtees, Lotus, BRM, Cooper-Maserati).
Still enjoy it, but rarely watch a whole race. Start and highlights usually.
It has moved up these last few races, Red Bull scaring folk!
Looking forward to Brands Hatch next, oops Silverstone...
