Updated version of my old Galileo atmosphere probe. The Galileo probe was sent by NASA to investigate the atmosphere of Jupiter. The probe was carried to Jupiter by the Galileo spacecraft (which isn't modelled here) and entered the atmosphere of Jupiter in 1995 returning measurements during its descent.

Thanks Mark! Been meaning to revisit the "Galileo" mission for a while. It would be cool to be able to integrate this with the "Galileo" bus. Is anyone working on updating the old Galileo add-on?
 
Have added the source code now! Hope it is of some use. Big thanks to Artlav for his Spacecraft3 to DLL converter which I used to first convert my old (rather bad) version of the Galileo probe into a preliminary version of the new add-on code which I could then improve and add extra features. It sped things up a bit I think.
 
Could you please explain the changes to Jupiter's config file?

I get why you had to change to rotation, but why did you change the radius?

Also, could you please explain the changes to the atmosphere.

Hi boogabooga,

Good question! I changed the radius so I could compare the simulation to the real Galileo trajectory. As you probably know the real Jupiter is a flattened sphere but in Orbiter it isn't. The original Jupiter config file was the mean radius and I wanted to use the larger radius of the equator region.

I can't remember at the moment why I changed the atmospheric parameters but I think it was for the same reason as above ... so I could compare the simulation with reality, i.e., so Galileo entered the atmosphere under the correct conditions.
 
For some reason, the craft doesn't show. Also, it never enters Jupiter's atmosphere and just gets slingshot out into solar orbit.
