HIP 13044 b - The first planet from another galaxy

HIP 13044 b is officially the first planet discovered from outside our own galaxy. the gaseous and very hot planet spins very fast and orbits a dying star which is at the edge of Milky Way. The planet is a little bit bigger than Jupiter and is 2000 light years away from Earth.

For me personally, this is very exciting and it shows that we have gone a long way in discovering new planets this past decade. I hope that the trend only continues.

The planet is current within our galaxy though so whilst it might be extragalatic in origin, in discovery it's very much inside our neighbourhood.
