How do you add a "Ghost Stage"?

This is probably a really simple thing to do, but I've been away from creating ini/config files for Orbiter for several years. I'm trying to create a ghost stage in front of my payload in the ini or config file. The payload has it's own dll file, which has no fuel but has some features I can't duplicate, so it will remain "as is". I want to make the ghost stage match the fuel and thrust capabilities of the payload and know I've seen it done on other add-ons.

If anyone knows of an add-on that I can borrow from, please let me know.

Somewhere at the hangar there is/was something called a dummy mesh. I think it was just a cube or something that was invisible. I'd thought of it this morning because I needed something like this as a workaround for a project of my own.

Well, that didn't work like I planned...wound up with two payloads. Can you add a payload inside a vessel's cfg file instead of the scenario file?
