North Korea has threatened to carry out nuclear missile tests unless the UN Security Council apologises for its condemnation of a recent rocket launch.

Pyongyang said it would be compelled to take self-defence measures "including nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile tests" if no apology was made... Pyongyang has insisted it put a communications satellite in orbit, and said it would ignore the sanctions, describing them as "a wanton violation of the UN charter".

Seriously, it looks like they are asking for a war. :( Why cant we just all get along?

I think we must put money in research for alternative energy or in space exploration but not in nuclear missiles.

Well, Kim wants some more concessions in the form of foreign aid. Also he wants his import/export restrictions reduced or for them to continue to be ignored. That's why he makes so much noise.

The bad part is the new foreign policy of the West is to act weak and give concessions. Eventually a backlash will come, but probably not in less than 2-4 years.

Bog, what?

If i understand it right, that's the situation so far:

How much does NK get from the rest of the world?

If they do get stuff for free, isn't that's the way it works:

Just hope they won't trigger this:

Seriously, "apologize or we nuke you" threats sounds like plain asking for war.
So they could nuke away anyway without being the guilty party of "starting" the war.

If the historic ballast of the USA in Korea is a problem, as far as I remember, Germany has never fought a war in Korea yet, and the words of our former emperor only applied to imperial china then. And you don't want to make Korea a special place on this planet, do you? ;)

Just as the Huns a thousand years ago, under the leadership of Attila, gained a reputation by virtue of which they still live in historical tradition, so may the name Germany become known in such a manner in China, that no Chinese will ever again dare to look askance at a German.

(That is why Germans got called Huns by the British later)

And we are also not nuclear. We even attempt to get rid of civilian nuclear power. So, nobody can blame us for igniting the first bomb ;)

No one blames Germany, if anything we should all thank you guys. You (Oberth, Von Braun especially) got us into space and sort of kept us there!

*sigh* here we go again. They yell nukes, we yell sthu (heck) we both go pout in our corners for a few months or years, then come back out rinse and repeat!

I doubt North Korea will ever go nuclear. The powers that be have enough conventional firepower to further obliterate North Korea into an even worse stone age than they're already in. It's about time Iran and North Korea understand how to play world politics. Playing nice even in a fake manner will get them a lot futher than throwing out random threats.

Well no all out conflict will benefit NK. The exception being capturing hostages or small military skirmishes to give them some bargaining chip.

They've shot at our airplanes that were over RK or international airspace. NK gets away with it because the incident stays isolated.

NK with nuke's ? they cannot even launch a satellite god help them when they try and launch a ICBM at some one

Even more important: Don't make bluffs, which you can't even pretend to be true. Your bluff has not failed as long as you can still improvise.

If your threat is "Let us test ballistic missiles or we will develop nuclear warheads, which we are developing anyway, for the ballistic missiles which we will develop anyway.", you should be prepared for somebody to ask "Or what?"

That kind of bluffing leaves your opponent with no other way out than to find out how far you can go quickly. Of course assuming, your opponent also sees the game you are playing and is not forming a committee to find out what would be the most spontaneous and coolest return for such a threat.

Even in a nuclear war between USA and USSR, you had to expect 20-25% of all missiles failing. That problem was solved by just launching more.

He goes North Korea again talking about nuclear tests. They need to back off and reform their country's government.

Just of curiousity, how NK's government going to be reformed without any pressure on it? I take it the population of the nation is pretty subdued, and I don't really consider the rest of the world giving into demands as pressuring them.
