Some people know that Elite 2 and FFE got some Newtonian physics :) but unfortunately there's lack on info about planet itself... You know only Mass of the planet... and your velocity vector and velocity relative to planet, so there's question what is possible techniques to handle on eye:
1. ascent to circular orbit (LEO range) or eccentric orbit;
2. departure to another planet;
3. arriving to other planet;
4. deorbit.

Well, knowing the mass can give you the standard gravitational parameter μ of the planet, given as μ = GM where M is the planet's mass and G is the universal gravitational constant.
Once you have μ you can start figuring out all sorts of things about your orbit. See this page: [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_gravitational_parameter"]Standard gravitational parameter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

By using that formulas we can calculate that μ, and after reaching some orbit we can try to figure out duration of 1 revolution (T), then using the formula 4π^2a^3/T^2 = μ we can find semi major axis of the orbit. Then measure distance to surface base in km to know some altitude.

Edit: or just use μ=rv^2 :D. It gives me 7114km... interesting... Nicelink and stuff to learn!
