Guys being working on this project for a while and I’m looking to team up with anyone interested in helping us bring it into Orbiter. We have the model in 3Dmax files as we where using it in FSX for a short while. Its part of a larger project designed for a physical simulator. So the vehicle was built around the simulator objectives and a crew of four:
1, The most versatile platform with a wide as possible mission scope based around a single four person crew flight deck.
2, To include single stage to orbit capability, atmospheric flight, an independent orbiter and eventually a surface lander again all from one flight deck.
3, Use believable ‘on the horizon’ technologies. Technologies being worked on today in laborites and research.
This is basically a multi stage rocket launched horizontally. Some of the main features include:
1, Adopting SABRE engine concept and using liner aerospikes.
2, Adopting Solid Phase Hydrogen Storage SPHS to mitigate cryogenic LH2.
3, Cockpitless flight deck with enhanced live video feed for external viewing.
4, Modern reusable TPS.
To name a few
We have been modeling a lot of detailed subsystems getting down into the weeds on this one to put some flesh on the bones and bring it to life.
The model has a number of animated elements control surfaces, payload bays, nose cone (yet to model docking adaptor), rotating nose OMS/RCS cover, RMS and deployable Solar panel bay doors (panels/arm yet to be modeled), landing gear, air intakes and radiator compartment doors.
The vehicle consists of two main parts. There is the lifting body, SABER engines, fuel, and main payload, and an orbiter/independent spacecraft MPEV Multi Purpose Exploration Vehicle. The idea being the vehicle would stage in orbit park the lifting body, the MPEV does its thing, re-docks with lifting body for the return trip to runway. We referred to this set up at the ODEV system Orbital Delivery and Exploration Vehicle. Of cause the whole vehicle can be used to deploy assets in orbit and return as a single unit.
The MPEV has two docking ports with the view to attach an independent power unit and extensions like inflatable habitats etc. Allowing the orbiter to be used for longer duration missions to moon NEO etc. Its symmetrical design means there could be the option of mounting the MPEV on a vertical launch system at some point.
Really hoping I can work with developers in orbit to fine tune the model and create a really fun vehicle that everyone can use. Our long term goals are to create highly detailed immersive full motion flight decks for the public to create science literacy programs that truly engage the public in long-term aerospace activities.
