A thread to celebrate the influence 'Star Wars' (1977) had on book covers for unrelated sci-fi stories. The two covers attached to this post, both come from 1981 the year 'Empire Strikes Back' came out.
These are for cheap newsstand/deli book rack paperbacks, one ('Starspinner') by an American publisher (Leisure Books) and the other ('Star Drifter') for an Australian publisher (Horwitz), the latter more well known for cheap naval action fiction.
If anyone has other examples sitting on their bookshelves, feel free to add them.
