I am still waiting for this:
dates back to win95 days, and with more and more options in many programs it could get somewhat cumbersome.
@Turbinator: Hmmm... Let's make a ship with a panel like that!
One of the earliest rumors I've read was that Windows 8 will be a 128-bit operating system, though it's hard for me to believe such thing.
I am still waiting for this:
AstonShell makes your desktop with the same theme. Not the control panel you posted, but a desktop with the looks and feel of that.
That's actually right (I think), I've heard that too. It's going to be 64-bit and 128-bit, just like we today have 32-bit and 64-bit.
Agree...64bit already offers huge overhead to use larger RAM sizes (16 Exabytes, is that possible?), there won't be a need for 128bit for a looong time.Doubtful at best. There aren't any 128 bit processors on the market to run it. My guess is that the high end versions will be strictly 64bit with a lower end 32Bit version available.
You don't need 128-bit operating system or CPU to do high precision arithmetics. The 486 processor (and even 80387 co-processor) which was 32-bit, had already 80-bit floating point unit, current SSE units can handle 128-bit data, and even if processor can't handle 128-bit floating point, it can be emulated by software. With 128 bits, there will be no problems with docking veeeery far from the Sun.
Orbiter is 32-bit software, so it can't even take advantage of 64-bit computing on modern 64-bit processors. With 128 bits, there will be no problems with docking veeeery far from the Sun.
