Im thinking of upgrading to win 7 64 bit from xp, have done a compatability check and that's fine.Do I install orbiter as normal or are there any known issues and is d3d11 smooth to install, currently have 4GB RAM,is that sufficient?
Upgrading, as installing the Windows 7 x64 and moving Windows XP by the Windows 7 installer to Windows.old directory, right? I'm not aware of other 32-bit to 64-bit upgrade option.Im thinking of upgrading to win 7 64 bit from xp
Don't install Orbiter to "Program Files (x86)" (nor to "Program Files").Do I install orbiter as normal or are there any known issues and is d3d11 smooth to install, currently have 4GB RAM,is that sufficient?
Yes. Without reformatting, the Windows installer will move the old Windows, Program Files and user folders to Windows.old directory. Settings won't be imported and you will need to reinstall programs, but all the data you had should be backed up in the Windows.old directory. Is this possible without re-formatting the hard-drive?
You can try increasing the memory limit that can be used by Orbiter to 4 GB (on 64-bit systems) by editing orbiter.exe with a hex editor, and setting Large Address Aware flag in the PE header. There are, IIRC, workarounds to it, but Orbiter does not use these.
