A massive fireball, believed to be a meteorite, has fallen on Thailand. Awestruck commuters witnessed the spectacle, describing a green and orange glow, as it took a nosedive toward Earth.

The event took place during the morning rush hour at about 8:45am local time in Bangkok.

The size of the fireball is judged to be quite substantial, as residents of the Sisawat district in Kanchanaburi province, some 200km from the capital, also described seeing the meteorite. They say they also heard a thunderous explosion, according to Thai PBS.

Some even reported hearing two explosions, so a team of rescue workers was dispatched to where the crash site was assumed to be.

Although something of this magnitude can potentially fill people with a mixture of awe and dread, a meteorologist interviewed on local radio says things like that are not a major event, and happen all the time. He admitted, however, that this was not a small meteorite by any measure.

All aviation-related services quickly dispelled suspicions it might have been some sort of air catastrophe; no aircraft were in the area.

I was heading to the West to go to work. At around 08:41am, in Ngamwongwas road, Nonthaburi, Thailand, the fireball showed up.

If you read Graham Hancocks books.. and others.. you'll know that we're overdue for a meteorite storm of planet destroying proportions.
Hopefully we'll be lucky this time..

We're always overdue for lots of destructive things. A magnetic field shift, a climate change (man-made or not), a meteor strike, a major earthquake that will wreck the US west coast, a tsunami that will wipe out the US east coast, an eruption of the Yellowstone volcano which will devastate all of North America if not the entire northern hemisphere, and of course a gamma ray burst which will wipe out all life in the solar system, on or off the earth, so don't bother thinking you're safe if you're on Mars.

With any luck, this will happen in my lifetime, all at the same time, probably right after I win the lottery, cure cancer, and get a working fusion reactor on line.

We're not overdue for anything. Natural disasters aren't scheduled like the morning trains, they don't arrive every 15 minutes. The mechanisms leading up to them are complex and chaotic. They happen when they happen.

No, rest assured we have plenty of time. I have a huge mortgage to pay, and with my luck, I will have to pay every penny before the end of the World.

Thai meteorite largest celestial body to reach Earth in 2015

September 14, 2015

The four-meter-diameter, 66-ton meteorite was travelling at 75,600 kilometres per hour before exploding at an altitude of 29.3 kilometers above ground

A meteorite spotted over Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, on September 7 has become the largest celestial body to reach the Earth’s atmosphere this year, the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand said on Monday.

Its trail of white smoke was caught on dashcams of dozens of Bangkok motorists.

A bright fireball lit up the night sky above Bangkok on Monday, as an objected suspected to be a meteor burnt up in the atmosphere over Thailand.

The flash could be seen in several parts of the country, including the capital, Thai media report. Dashcam videos published soon after the fireball hit the sky show the dark night turn into day for a few seconds.

According to the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand, it is suspected that the fireball was a small meteor that burnt up in the atmosphere at a high altitude.

The newest spectacle comes after a meteor streaked across the skies of Bangkok on September 9, causing a huge fireball.
