Hello Orbiter People,
I'm trying to install the XR2 Ravenstar for into Orbiter 2016. When I tried to extract it into the orbiter directory, it said that the file was invalid and the folder showed up empty. I read about this problem on some other threads, and they said to use something like 7zip to unzip the files. So I downloaded 7zip and extracted the files to the orbiter directory. When I opened up orbiter there wasn't any scenario for the XR2. I don't know where I went wrong. Does anyone have a solution? I have had lots of trouble installing addons in the past and I have pretty much no idea what I'm doing so im sure its some stupid mistake. I also tried it on a clean version of orbiter (with the required addons for the XR planes of course).

Did you download the latest version from http://www.alteaaerospace.com/index-3.html ?

Did you see the note? XR vessels require DanSteph's UMmu 3.0 and OrbiterSound 4.0 or higher

Maybe your download is invalid. Did you unzip it to the right folders? In which folder did your XR2RavenstarPrefs.xml end up? It should be in Orbiter\Config

Yes, I have UMMU and Orbiter Sound installed. But The XR2RavenstarPrefs.xml isn't in Orbiter/Config, So i guess they weren't unzipped to the right folder. Should I Just move it there? Or should I try unzipping everything again to another folder?

Ok, then that's the problem. You could inspect de zip archive and move every file to it's proper location. Or you could create a new orbiter installation folder and try again to unzip the archives in the correct way. Since most add-ons work like that, it's probably best to try again and learn how to do this.

I made this mistake a few times as well.

I'm having problems with installing the XR2 and XR5 too - every time I download the zip files, I have zip files of the right size, but they don't seem to contain any data. There's simply nothing to extract. Any ideas?

I'm downloading them from here: http://www.alteaaerospace.com/index-3.html

Read above. The default windows unzip cannot handle the format in the zip file. You need a utility like 7-zip.

Thanks, that wasn't clear to me earlier. Now I see the note on the download page too.

No prob. It's the first time I've ever seen a zip file that native Windows cannot handle. If you look at it in 7-zip, you'll see a curious top level \.\ directory reference, which is throwing Windows off. But it all works, and it's worth the extra step to get those magnificent spacecraft installed!
