I tried but its not working. wait. is the CFG. file ment to go in

Config>vessels>config?

No, the file should be installed as:

$ORBITER_ROOT\Config\Vessels\XR5Vanguard.cfg

In other words, it should be installed in Config\Vessels.

Please make sure you are extracting the XR5 installation files to your $ORBITER_ROOT directory with the "Preserve Subdirectories" option checked in your zip extraction program.

DBeachy is the first person you should listen to on this. Like him, I suspect that the files didn't get unzipped into the correct directories. Unfortunately, I don't have a ready-made solution for you.

I will, however, tell you that you are asking intelligently. Thank you for providing the orbiter.log. That makes a HUGE difference.

Please let us know exactly how you tried to install the XR-5, including which utility you used to unzip the file. Orbiter add-ons rely on the unzip utility to put things in the proper place - and not all of them do that by default. The "built-in" windows unzip is notorious for putting things in the wrong place - and for also not giving you any idea where it puts things.

Just in case you aren't fully computer literate (or the next person who reads this thread isn't) I'll point out that "$Orbiter Root" isn't the name of an actual folder. It is a "placeholder". Whenever you see "$Orbiter Root" you should take that to mean the folder in which you "installed" Orbiter. In other words, the folder that contains the "orbiter.exe" file.

I suspect you already know this - I'm just making sure that the next person who reads this thread know it as well.

Depending on what unzip utility you used (Winzip, WinRar, 7-Zip) you will want to make sure that certain options are used. Sometimes it's called "Keep Directory Structure Intact", or "Use folders ...") Sometimes the Windows Unzipper just unzips everything to one folder - and things don't always get where they belong.

I can verify that the XR-5 does work when installed correctly (and is awesome), so I suspect a slight misunderstanding between you and the unzip utility!

Thank you for the fast response. :tiphat:

Yes i understand everything you are saying, but for the benefit of others please keep thing simple or describe/illustrate what you mean. (By that i mean that you keep IT terms simple)

To answer your question Tommy, i used WinRar but was not aware of the "keep directory structure intact" option.

What i can do is upload to YouTube the process i go through to install the
XR5-Venguard, afterwards you can tell me what i do wrong :).

Sorry for the delayed response, being 14 years old i am very busy with school work, and planning my courses for next year. (I want to be a games designer!)

P.s. I will post the details of the video after it's been uploaded.

Thanks for the help dbeachy1 and Tommy, Greatly appreciated!

Ah, now you see, there's your problem.
Here's a step by step process to install the XR-5, and almost any addon.

1. Download it from Altea Aerospace's website
2. Locate the .zip file (should have XR5 in the name)
3. Open it
4. Extract All files (the button, click it! Before we are all doomed! Doomed I say, DOOOOOMED!!)
5. Extract the files to your orbiter install (usually C:\Program Files(x86)\Orbiter2010\)
6. It will ask if you want to merge some files, I.E. \config\ \textures\ let it.
7. Run orbiter.exe
8. Check and see if the file XR5 Vanguard is present in the Scenario directory
9. If it is, run a scenario, try XR5 on approach to KSC (my favorite)
10. If all goes well, then you're all set, if not, go back to the .zip, and copy the \config\ folder over to your orbiter install
11. Hail Probe!!
12. Eat Bacon.
