How long did it take you guys to get to Mars? I am having trouble with it. I just want to see if I am on track compared to other people around me.
It took me 347.2052 days from surface of Earth to Olympus on Mars.
I left on MJD 55120.5016.
So, does 347 days make sense or was there a quicker way to go?
No, 347 days doesn't make sense.
Are you sure you don't mean *two* hundred and forty seven days? Or did you take a big detour? Unless you did something really wacky, the slowest transit one would generaly make takes about 250 days.
I double checked everything...
I had a TransX Eject date from Earth of 55121.1 the resultant Encounter prediction was 55344 (223 days). This was based on a prograde vel of 3.567k, and a change plane velocity of -2.155k for a deltaV of 3.955k. This results in an Encounter V of 4.624k.
What actually happened:
I launched from KSC and was it orbit 55120.5. I adjusted the plane to the minimize Rinc from the escape plan in TransX. Something happened in TransX so I had to replan the trip. This time, I had 3.201k as the prograde velocity, and -356.4 as the change plane velocity, for a resultant of 3.649k. This results in an Encounter V of 2.68k and a 347 day trip.
So, basically, I didn't choose the optimal time to get there, but it sure was the most fuel efficient.
