I've seen some reactions to this, and people think that Disney's going to ruin it further (they thought it was already ruined by the prequels), and that it's going to be like some cheap Disney Channel production.

In 2015, we’re planning to release Star Wars Episode 7 – the first feature film under the “Disney-Lucasfilm” brand. That will be followed by Episodes 8 and 9 – and our long-term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years.
I approve!

Shame about LucasFilm getting sold out to Disney.

Clarification for you guys though.

1) This happened to Pixar, they also were sold out to Disney, and still are making great films. LucasFilm will be apart of Disney as Pixar is, but you will still see a LucasFilm logo in front of the movies. Also happened to Marvel movies, and the Avengers was a great film.

2) Instead of Fox, it will be Paramount that releases the movies.

3) Lucas will probably not direct, no idea who, though I heard someone on twitter speculate that it might be the guy who directed The Avengers.

4) It will probably not be a reboot, as Episode 7 refers to events after Episode 6. It will be of Luke Skywalker finishing up his journey as a Jedi.

They have enough Extended Universe creations for a couple of thousands of new Star Wars episodes.

Not really. The prequels indicate that Lucas himself has lost the ability to make an awesome movie.

Oh man, if Joss Whedon were to direct Star Wars...that's like the ultimate nerdgasm.

They probably won't draw on any existing expanded universe storylines, though...

John Williams is still alive, and they're probably about to go into pre-production soon, so hopes are that he comes back for the score!!

Don't even joke about that, I just bought these pants.

Just about anybody is better than Lucas at this point, the prequels were a disaster. Though, I'm not looking forward to Star Wars movies being written by a Disney committee to tag as many toy-buying demographics groups as possible.

Funny, after John Carter was the biggest flop in history, I though Disney would be running far away from sci-fi and space opera.

My prediction?

These movies are going to suck. They will nevertheless make tons of money. The merchandizing alone will kill once it has Disney muscle behind it.

As long as they don't let Lucas have too much input, though, there is a chance. They should at least be better than Episode I.

I doubt it, Disney's really just footing the bill in my view. The Avengers, and the pixar movies are all really good, especially if - rumor has it, Joss Whedon is directing, the guy who also did Serenity. I'm hopeful, because GL is out of the way of the directors helm.

I think expectations from fans are low after the prequels, and you can't blame them.

But the thing is, Avengers 2 is scheduled to come out the same summer. So would you rather have Whedon directing the new Star Wars, or Avengers 2?

Star Wars, it's a series that knows how to make a buck just as much as the Avengers. Whedon knows how to direct these types of movies, and the series needs saving stat.

Could be like what they did to the Batman series with Nolan, though because they're calling this Episode 7 instead of a reboot, it's Luke Skywalker.

I like Whedon but I don't know if I'd like Whedon and Star Wars. We'll see.

After that awful JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot I really am wary of people ruining good sci fi franchises.

The more I think about it. The more I think Disney is a good place for Star Wars for now. They have not screwed up Marvel nearly as much as I expected and they seem halfway decent these days.

The only thing I am concerned about is that this deal also covers ILM. ILM does ALOT of work (Most of the effects post TOS in Star Trek were ILM's work) for other movies and I worry about this focusing of production ability in one already giant company.

Lucasarts game division however is worth little these days in my opinion. They have gone from making such amazing games such as X-Wing, Tie-Fighter, and X-wing alliance to Star Wars galactic dance off. Hopefully Disney can fix this.

See, the thing is Disney isn't just fairy princesses. Decent movies do come out of Disney, the Avengers to name a recent example.

Marvel has done amazing, I'm sure the people there understand how huge of a deal this is. People will give Star Wars the proper respect it deserves.

Well, if they do it correctly, they will refer to the plethora of novel and novelettes about the life of Luke that has been published, and will at least provide and in-depth character to the growing Luke.

MAKE THE THRAWN TRILOGY.

I cannot stress this enough, Disney.

Anyone else wonder if Disney can dig up the last copy of the theatrical versions that Lucas didn't burn in his massive backyard bonfire, and actually release the unmolested movies on DVD?
