Kind of fun, yeah.

First and only lazy try, 10661 points. A Romanian flag on a house gave one away, an "Aperto" sign another, and a roadsign in the middle of nowhere with some Nordic looking writing gave away another (turned out to be Sweden, I chose Norway).

Only one was way off; I guessed Wales area for Alabama! :lol:

Round 1: Wandered around until I saw "Seattle" on a sign. (about 5000 points just for that)

Round 2: Saw signs with umlauts above the letters. Guessed Sweden.

Round 3: Saw signs in French.

Round 4: Found some signs, in a language that I didn't recognize. Then found a sign saying "Eurostrada", so I knew I was in Europe. Then I randomly picked Romania.

Round 5: Was a tropical looking place. Wandered around until I saw the characteristic "-ao" ending of Portuguese words.

Very interesting. For now I'm lost in some sunny forest with some tropical species, aside a great river. I wonder. Nothing written, people could be europeans, no roads yet, forest everywhere... Probably South America...

Edit : Typical portugese -ao ending words. No cars. No roads. Lots of boats. Very likely along the Amazon, in Brazil, a small community without road access.

Edit 2 : Now on a small boat on the river, that seems endless. lol. The people who took all those pictures are crazy

Edit 3 : 483 km miss. Not that bad. It was on the Amazon.

Edit 4 : Last attempt was the best. 33 meters away.

This is a very valuable learning aid. Not only do you visit obscure places in the world you would never (by chance) set foot in, you also get an insight into the mindset of the locals, and what they're willing to do just to defeat boredom.

Was that Deerfield, Ohio? I pass through that roundabout often on the way to visit family. (It's the only one I've ever seen.)

It appears to be a roundabout right in the middle of Greenville, OH. On the south-western exit you are able to see signs pointing to highway 502 and 121 and that's basically where it dropped me.

Otherwise the US flag on the roundabout the many pickup-like cars or the yellow crosswalk sign kinda gave the nation away at least, but having the nation in the US? Helpful...:lol:

Still it was 1500 km from my home, so they didn't get that from my IP.

There is a lot of difference between these two languages, although Afrikaans was "borrowed" from Dutch.

Another try, this time I got 24308 points.

1) United States, Texas (a village in the plains). Not that hard, but took me time. Almost exact guess, found the street.

2) Japan, at first I wasn't sure because I couldn't understand anything... Except numbers. Which gave me road numbers. The pic was near the crossing of two roads, so I was in the 500 meters. Another good one.

3) Alberta, Canada, site where the last spike of the transcanadian railway was hammered in 1885 (there was a nice sign). Took me a lot of time, it was easy to find the transcanadian railway/highway (that are parallel), but then, that was another story. Mountains oriented me towards Western Canada. Then a lot of signs spotting led me to the right place. Almost perfect one.

4) Australian outback. An endless road bordered by laterite and bushes. No signs of human activity. Followed the road for 20 minutes and only thing I noticed was an isolated radio mast. 2500 kilometers miss. No clues, no fun.

5) Scandinavia. This was obvious thanks to a sign and the fact I started in a fjord. Then it was more complicated : as it was an isolated village. I spotted a Norway flag. Which wasn't of much help, Norway coast is extremely elongated. Had some luck, 500 km miss "only".

20517 - my highest score in 5 tries: Damn good old Australia, how am I supposed to know in which corner of the outback am I located when I don't see any highway numbers (and it turns out to be on an non-numbered highway in the middle of nowhere far away from any big town in Western Australia!)!?
