Hi there was just going to update my last External Tank Addon but as I've changed so much I decided to have a new Addon. I've updated this addon once again because the early SRB panels where not perfect sorry

I'd like to thank Dave S as I've included his SRB's from his 2008 addon I would have directed you to download it but as I've altered the textures and meshes, it wouldn't have worked  so Thank you very much.

I've tried to make an Accurate light weight Tank which was used for most of the Launches, also to match the Standard weight Tank as well for the early launches.

Thanks to Pappy for helping me by checking my work  you helped alot

and tries to keep me accurate

required Addon

ShuttleFleet 4.8

backup your meshes for the Shuttle fleet tanks and Srb's

Enjoy

long live Shuttle Fleet

We're just a Dot

One small friendly advice: please check the correct Orbiter version when you create a new add-on "Orbiter Version: 100830". By default it is selected the current Orbiter 2016 version. This way it is more simple to select add-on by Orbiter version.

oh thanks didn't notice that wish David 413 would realise he still has fans of his work out there and either update shuttle fleet (just enough to work) or give somebody he trusts the source files to fix it then I can switch over to 2016

if anyone knows him please talk to him

I wrote him more than a month ago on Dan's Orbiter Forum (I've been told he is still active on that forum) asking if he had any plans to release an update for Orbiter 2016 but... so far no answer :(

Got an answer from David413: he has no plans for an Orbiter2016 Fleet update :(

Very bad news, since the new Orbiter has no Shuttle to offer. Need somebody to fill this gap asap..

Last I've checked there was an Atlantis in stock 2016. With autopilot, nice pad textures, etc.

Could he not give someone he trusts the source files to fix the problem
it probably wouldn't be a big fix think its a bit unfair

Hope Martin will forgive me:as DaveS reported the stock Atlantis is a nice looking toy (especially with my new hires textures :P) but fairly useless when it comes to flying a shuttle mission or even a simple reentry

That would be nice, though I have no idea if David413 will ever let anybody put his hands on his creature. My impression is either he will do it (should he change his mind) or... Bye bye Fleet :salute:
Hope I am wrong

Yes it is. When (and I mean when a fully functional version will be released) it's a different story. Don't mean to bash SSU but since it is far more complex and realistic than any other Orbiter shuttle and a very ambitious project also "not meant for the public" as the devs say and given the fact that they have limited time and a real life to deal with, it might take a very long time...

It might not be correct in all details, but it sure is a Shuttle in Orbiter, right? My comment was on the sentence "the new Orbiter has no Shuttle to offer". This is simply wrong. There is even the source code to this Shuttle, so people could enhance it or correct specs that are off.

If David413 chose to drop his work, so be it. This is not unfair, egoistic or anything at all, it is just what closed source addons will always be: in the hand of the author alone. Take your time and think about it the next time you run across one of these. Enjoy it while it is there, it could be gone tomorrow ;) .

Of course you can do another thing, too: increase David's worship counter. If you cry enough, he might just feel that sense of mercy to release a 2016 edition. :hailprobe:

Well I think it is not that wrong.
As a matter of fact the latest Orbiter is missing a Space Shuttle that can simulate at least some of the basic maneuvers/tasks. The Fleet was far from being a replica of the real thing but at least offered some nice features specifically developed for a space shuttle (like GPCMFD, RPOPMFD, ORBTGTMFD, etc.)

My question is: can Orbiter afford to live with no "usable" Space Shuttle? Would you imagine a F1 simulator/game with no Ferrari?

Let's just say we agree to disagree here.

Regarding your F1/Ferrari thing: I think Orbiter can very well live without Shuttlefleet. Question, though: do you think David413 can live without his loyal fans?

DaveS recently kindly pointed out some inaccuracies in the mass definitions of the stock Atlantis. I'll try to incorporate his corrections in one of the next betas, but it's quite a low priority for me, so if this is important to you, you should better apply the fixes yourself (and who knows, maybe start a new Shuttle project that way).

Or is your request more fundamental, i.e. now that an addon has stopped working in the latest version, I should feel obliged to take up the baton and replace those addons?

Maybe this is a good point to clarify my design philosophy:

Orbiter consists of a core, a programming interface and a few sample codes for user-space plugins.
I do feel a certain obligation to maintain the core part, since it's closed source and everything else depends on it (although I take care not to let that obligation manifest itself as deadlines - after all, this is a hobby).

I feel absolutely no obligation regarding the sample codes. These are meant as examples for developers, for myself to test the core, and for my personal fun. The samples live entirely on the user-space side of the interface. So with regards to those, I am an addon developer like everybody else with no additional privileges. I write them for my own enjoyment, and hope that others find them useful (although the latter isn't mandatory). The entire point of the API is to allow those with stronger feelings about technical complexity or historical fidelity to implement their own solutions.

My question is: can Orbiter afford to live with no "usable" Space Shuttle? Would you imagine a F1 simulator/game with no Ferrari?

I have no idea what Orbiter can afford, but if your question is if I can live with a stock Shuttle that not everybody finds "usable", the answer is yes. And who knows maybe frustration will turn into initiative.

Well I for one won't be changing over 2016 as the default one I have not used since the minute I discovered Shuttle Fleet (about a week after started with Orbiter) but SSU is too complicated, Shuttle Fleet is like the Middle ground not basic but not overly complicated.

Maybe we could start a petition to make David 413 realise we want to continue using his work in to the future we don't want an update just a fix

Do you mean that you won't change over to 2016 because of Shuttlefleet? Well, you can run them in parallel, you know?

Send him some money and a "you are my greatest hero" postcard. I think that might have a better chance.

This is in fact how Shuttle Fleet began. Not as the complete fleet but just an overhaul of the technical side of the default Atlantis. I was involved on the mesh side of this little project then called Atlantis Mod. This was back in late 2002 if I remember correctly.
Everything was nice and well and then along came Donamy with his new Endeavour (not Atlantis) mesh/textures in early 2003 and asked if it could be used in place of the default Atlantis. Then David413 asked if he could use Atlantis Mod as the base of a new add-on that would incorporate all of the orbiters from the the earliest Columbia to the latest Endeavour. Permission was granted and a few months later Shuttle Fleet v1.0 was released.

So as you can see, this has already happened, more than 13 years ago. In fact, the very last version of Atlantis Mod, v1.5, is still available for download on OHM: [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1804"]Atlantis Mod 15a[/ame]
