While flying around on a MS Flight Simulator 9, multiplayer, ATC controlled voice server, I was chatting with this guy while we we trying to fly our T-38s in formation, and I wondered aloud over the mic "Wouldn't it be cool if we fly around in space like we are doing now?" and he said "Have you ever heard of Orbiter?"

Thats how it started for me.

Someone on an FS website posted a "flight report" that wasn't for FS- it was for Orbiter. A trip to the ISS in the DGIV. The screenies caught my attention, so I googled it and well... here I am.

I was googling Space simulators and ran into Orbiter. When I saw the Space Shuttle and Apollo addons I was overjoyed and jump straight in. Especially with my strong background in Math and Physics, I was ready for the challenge of a lifetime. :hotcool:

Sorry if I "bumped" this thread or something, but this is how I found Orbiter:
Back in December '07, while browsing on Wikipedia, I found Orbiter. It sounded really cool, but I didn't look into it further for some reason.
Fast forward to June '08, and someone suggested I try Stellarium. While looking around, I rediscovered Orbiter, and thought "Wow! this is really cool!".
Now, I can't stop.

Holy Necropost Batman!

I've spent a fair bit of time installing various versions of Debian GNU/Linux, on one such occasion I was browsing through the packages being shown in Aptitude, when I saw 'Celestia' offered. The description made it sound quite like something i'd be interested in, but never really looked into it much.

One bored afternoon I went to look it up in Wikipedia, where it mentioned it was similar to Orbiter. I read the Wikipedia entry on Orbiter and thought i'll look into that as well. Took a bit before I actually got round to downloading it, a bit more before I actually got round to installing it, but finally I got there in the end :)

I was on FSX trying to fly as high as I could and then I thought it would be really cool if I were able to leave the atmosphere etc etc. So a quick google later and the rest is history :D

During late 2006, I was on a friend's computer and googled "space flight simulator". Orbiter came up along with many other websites. I didn't click the link.
Then it was forgotten, well, for the moment.

Around October 2007, I watched STS-120 on TV, and then remembered about Orbiter, buried somewhere deep in my mind.
Googled it again.
Found it.

Then I discovered this forum about ten months ago.
... and started posting since about four months ago.

Well, from a young age I have always been interested in space flight. But I was never interested enough to say, watch a Space Shuttle launch live, or learn all the parts of the ISS. If ever there was anything in the news about space flight, it would grab my attention, and I always had a good (but basic) knowledge of spacecraft, their systems & space flight terminology. But I would never have called myself a space flight enthusiast.

In March 2008, I decided, just for fun, that I would see if there were any flight simulators available for free online. So I Googled "free flight sim" and Orbiter was one of the first results. It grabbed my attention instantly. After seeing about 3 screenshots, I was hooked!

And Orbiter has since motivated me to learn a whole lot more about space flight, and now I do consider myself a space flight enthusiast! :speakcool:

Early in Orbiter development when graphics were fairly primitive compared to now, I was looking for a replacement for Virgin Games Shuttle. Over the years I would check back into the progress of the sim and when the graphics became competitive with FS, I started spending regular time with it. Being a NASA and Shuttle enthusiast, I trend toward realistic and historical spacecraft, but get drawn into the fanciful ships which have had a great deal of attention given to them like the Firefly.

I'm looking foward to the day when Orbiter has a stable Multiplayer and extensive ship interoperability (docking, ummu, etc.) so the Orbiter community can become the free (Vatsim-like) realistic space massive multiplayer as opposed to Eve's totally fake payware space.

I was just googling around for free space flight simulators, and happened to see Orbiter. But I was using dial-up at the time, and didn't have anywhere near the bandwidth to download it, so I bypassed it and downloaded a program called Space Explorer instead. A neat program (I still have it), but not very realistic. Then I got DSL, and fulfilled my vow to get Orbiter. My first thought when I ran it was: "Wow, Space Explorer all grown up!"

Looked at Space Shuttle launch videos online and noticed one was a rendering. It contained the name of the simulator so I downloaded.

Was looking for MS Space Simulator and stumbled upon Orbiter. I think Orbiter is the best out of all of them!

I was bored about a week ago so I was looking on the Wikipedia list of freeware games. The name Orbiter grabbed my attention so I gave it a try but gave up when it wasn't a mindless WASD shooter. A day or two later I decided to try it again and was hooked.
