Hello everyone. We found this site looking for the time the Atlas launches tomorrow, 8/25/12. It is so awesome! Neither of us work in the space field, but we both grew up here and it's a big part of our lives. To find such a site so dedicated to space, we cannot believe it! We boat, fish, scuba dive, camp, and bicycle.

I live in Bristol, England, UK, EU, Earth, Solar System, Milky Way, Universe, Multiverse. I'm an Atheist, But I will listen to your religious talk if you can prove to me your lord and master exists.. I've been Orbiting for about 2 months now, and love it :D So yeah.. Thats me..

Hi my name is Mario and I just completed a successful flight around earth with the DGIV. My interests include flight siming, orbiter, and model airplanes.

Hi, my name is Alessandro (40) and work as C++ programmer in germany.
I very like this sim, and by chance has something to do with my actual job because of working in an agency that fly satellites, so I have the occasion to hear some terms used here during my actual working hours. But it's not that the main reason, I would have liked Orbiter anyway :)

Greetings from Montana

Hello,
I'm in college to become a computer engineer, Love robotics, love just about every aspect of engineering (except the cost), and enjoy simulators. Figured this is the place to learn more about orbital mechanics and maybe some modeling advice.

Hello all - Now that I'm back in the forum (Actually here for the first time; I was in an earlier Orbiter forum) I thought it'd be a good idea to introduce myself.

My name is Dave; a 45 year old web printer in Edmonton Alberta, Canada. Not the most exciting job in the world; my last job was much more exciting - right up until the time I actually had to do it. See, up until 1995 I was a soldier of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. Great job and tons of fun - then we went to Bosnia. By my third tour, I was a Sergeant serving as Section Commander, but quit the Forces right after my third tour - I'd seen too much.
Over the next fifteen years or so I spiralled down into depression and alcoholism; I've only pulled myself out in the past couple of years though I still feel the effects of PTSD. During this time I've earned a certain respect for my printing skills; when I work I can concentrate on that and ignore my private life.

Still, life has been far from all bad. I love opera and the Martial Arts; I hold a 2nd. degree black belt in Aikido and hope to open my new dojo this year (now that I've dug myself out of my financial hole). I have belts in other arts too; but I now study Aikido exclusively.

Many who remember me from the old forum will remember that I delighted in writing, with a strong science-fiction and mystery bent. That hobby finally looks like it might finally be bearing fruit - I'm very close (1-2 months) to having my first mystery novel complete and ready for E-reader free upload. I don't have a publisher - don't want one; I'm doing this on my own. I can't believe I'm actually doing this - next week I'm checking out modeling agencies to hire a model for the front cover! Almost feel like an author here; if one that hasn't the slightest clue as to what he's doing.
Must go; have six pages to write before bedtime. And a docking with ISS, if I've got time left.

Hello! I'm new to orbiter, sort of. I d/l it several years ago, then got orders to Iraq (yeah, I'm a military guy). So, finally got around to d/l the newest version and paying with it.

Staiduk, good luck on your book. Actually, I was inspired to get back on Orbiter again after reading a new sci-fi novel from Amazon. It was a self-published ebook, and it was pretty good except for rambling prose (for the fist half) and a lack of science when it came to spaceflight. Not the FTL stuff (I understand why most sci-fi has FTL, if for no other reason than to move along the plot)...

So, this book described things like "the ship chasing us has a higher maximum speed!" (did the author mean acceleration?) and a few pages later the ship that took hours to reach "maximum speed" stops instantly and lands on a planet.

And roger... You get the idea.

Anyway, once on Orbiter I'm reminded why such disregard for physics is really a turn-off in sci-fi for me. What a great sim! Thanks to Martin Schweiger and all of you who have worked on developing it and the add-ons.

Oh, BTW, how do I close the main menu once I've opened it? I did a search and found this: AMSO Main menu problem... Is there a better fix?

Thanks!

Ranger

Hello

Hi, everyone.

I'm new to Orbiter and am having a great time trying to figure things out. I am 52 and work in the student transportation industry. Specifically, I make school bus routes and make sure they run on time and as efficiently as possible. Prior to that I spent time in the US Army Reserve in the logistics field. I wouldn't have missed it but I wouldn't want to do it again, either. . .

There's so much to do in Orbiter and I know I have yet to scratch the surface. Wish me luck as I try not to get lost in space or burn up on reentry

Hello Ranger, thanks for the encouraging words. That's exactly how I intend to publish; cut out the middle-man, as it were. You like it? Buy it - Don't like? Criticize it. In this E-age I don't really see the need for agents and publishers. I could be wrong; we'll have to see. :)

Well, the value of being backed by a publisher is the publicity, mainly. You can get put on more shelves that way, where you might be unable to get on any shelves at all independantly. Of course, being 'backed' by a publisher will also mean being put on a leash by them, unless you're very careful. Staying away from all that is a safe bet.

Well really; I'm just a control freak - I don't like the idea of someone I don't know saying 'Well, it's OK but you need to change the last half of the book exactly how I want it, kill off these two characters and oh yes - it'd be great if your protagonist was gay. Have it to me by Monday.'
As for publicity well...

I've got a few ideas on that score.

Cheers!

Hi,

I'm from just east of Vancouver Canada - out in the Fraser Valley region.

I found this forum while trying to do some research on the Decade 80 Solar House built in Tucson, AZ in the mid 1970s.

Found an old house plan book recently, with some photos and drawing of the house in it, and my curiosity was piqued.

I haven't introduced myself before so better late than never. I am a University/College drop-out who started two engineering programs but was too lazy to study so I decided to just do something that I will surely love (flying). So I am now working as a security guard until I can make enough money to pay for pilot school. I am also a body-builder and am going to get my personal training certificate soon (working out is one of the two things that keeps me sane). The other is driving, I just love going to France, renting a sports car and driving all the way back to my home country Romania. Driving in Europe is so much more satisfying than in North America.
