Sandra Bullock in space (still from Gravity)

I don't know if the work of Alfonso Cuarón is widely known, he could be seen as just another Hollywood director for his work on a Harry Potter film. But his "Children of Men" is an incredible near-future dystopia with the most dramatic long sequences I've seen since Citizen Kane or Goodfellas...

EVA aborted today apparently due to a leak of drinking water in Luca Parmitano's helmet. They returned to the station 1h35m into the EVA and everything's OK. http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2013-07/breaking-nasa-aborts-spacewalk-due-water-astronauts-helmet?src=SOC&dom=tw UPDATE -...

    Hello! (Teenager here)

You're going to learn so much about astrophysics from the genius types here (I'm not one of them, my experience of Caltech is strictly from hanging out with them in the student bars a long time ago) Have fun and make the most of the O-F community.

Science Navy Drone Makes First Aircraft Carrier Landing

The US engineers said it wasn't GPS hacking because the drone uses primary INS guidance. They said that a GPS hack would have been overridden by the INS program.

Science Navy Drone Makes First Aircraft Carrier Landing

Just did a little checking and of course this is nothing like the first automated landing on an aircraft carrier. This occurred in 1963 on the CV Midway, using a modified F4 Phantom. http://thanlont.blogspot.com.es/2011/07/look-no-hands.html I wonder how much the 1963 system cost in...

Science Navy Drone Makes First Aircraft Carrier Landing

Gosh I sure hope they actually know where the terrorist camps are, because occasionally they make mistakes and send the killer robots to blow up a school.

Question Is orbiter.dansteph and orbiterfrancophone down or have problems ?

Dan, I'm really sorry to hear about your problems, and that you also feel underappreciated. It's certainly true that we are not as appreciative as we could be, but if there has been a lack of comments expressing gratitude, think of the number of skins and scenarios based around your work. Many...

Launch News (FAILURE) Proton-M/Block-DM-03 launch with triple GLONASS-M, July 2, 2013

If I understand the thread correctly, they've lost 6 Glonass satellites in a year. Does this significantly affect the Glonass system? I read somewhere that it was 100% operational and just as good as GPS. But will it start failing as units go out of action with no replacement? PS Thanks...

Question Simple question, which MFD is more accurate to intercept vessels?

That's the way I do it, except I tend to do course corrections and retro burns by eye. I enjoy "seat of your pants" style. All the previous about LaunchMFD giving you a best launch window with minimum Rinc, that's good advice too.

Question Simple question, which MFD is more accurate to intercept vessels?

I'm too stupid to understand TransX so I always use IMFD. The rendezvous is very good with this, good enough for me to switch to manual on approach and dock without any other maneuver. So IMFD works fine for me. Can't really compare.
