    Trouble calculating launch azimuth

er... guys. GUYS. Take this outside please. Mods? Can we perhaps lock this thread? It seems to have turned completely unfruitful :(

    Trouble calculating launch azimuth

Hey, I fly to the moon by the seat of my pants all the time. Sure, sometimes I end up just barely grazing its sphere of influence, and have to spend a lot of fuel to get into a proper orbit, but hey. All fun comes at a price! At least I've started to remember to check life support levels...

    Trouble calculating launch azimuth

I'm happy to say that I'm now nailing it. I got to within 2.7 degrees RInc of the ISS just now.

Aaaah! Of course, you are right. Thank you.

    Trouble calculating launch azimuth

OK so I've done some reading and searching, but reliably calculating launch azimuth still escapes me. I've set up a scenario on Europa as attached - two DeltaGliders, one in orbit the other on the ground at (0,0). I get into the DG on the ground, set up OrbitMFD with the other DG as target...

    Nasa Eyes - trajectory visualization

And then I found this: Videnie orbit drawing 1.0 Which is a LOT better for visualising orbits. Now I can do an eject burn to Jupiter, take a look outside and compare what I see with the numbers in TransX or IMFD or whatever, and at least learn something. Not that Nasa's tool isn't cool :-D...

    Nasa Eyes - trajectory visualization

So yesterday I discovered this: http://eyes.nasa.gov/ Which looks like it will help me a great deal with visualising trajectories in general, and in particular to understand what's going on during an eject burn. A topical example is setting the visualisation to Juno's launch window to see...

New Orbiter SVN commit (r.71, Oct 14 2017)

I like the university idea! Unfortunately internet cafe's in South Africa are impractical due to high cost (per minute) and low download speeds. But the university is a good idea. Thanks!

New Orbiter SVN commit (r.71, Oct 14 2017)

Texture files What are the chances there's some kind soul living nearby (Cape Town, South Africa) who have already downloaded the hi-res textures for the beta? I can get them over time. But it will take a substantial amount of effort and time to do so, because they're so big and I don't have...

    OHM TransX 2018.05.06 MMExt2 for Orbiter 2016

I've never deliberately done anything with ModuleMessagingExt. But... I have been deliberately messing around with my Windows installation, so quite possibly I undid ModuleMessagingExt... Thanks! I'll go grab it and try again. ---------- Post added at 21:01 ---------- Previous post was at...

    OHM TransX 2018.05.06 MMExt2 for Orbiter 2016

I have had transx for a while, and recently saw the update (i.e. the one with auto-min and auto-center). I downloaded and installed that, now I have TransX and TransX2 in my modules screen. I just assumed that TransX2 is the one I need... Maybe that's a bogus assumption? ---------- Post...

    OHM TransX 2018.05.06 MMExt2 for Orbiter 2016

stopped working... Hi there, I used TransX2 for a bit, it works great! Unfortunately I had some boot sector difficulties and had to re-install my Windows 10. Now I'm getting this in orbiter.log: Error loading module Modules\Plugin\TransX2.dll (code 126) Here's the full log. Help? PS...

    Project XR3 Phoenix (WIP)

The interior of the XR3 shouts "Space Quest" at me. Fond memories! Can't wait for both these ships to be available.

    OHM Tutorial: DG to ISS

What I've found sometimes, is that in some scenarios the ISS has (or develops?) a small amount of spin, and this causes it to be VERY difficult to dock unless you can do it very quickly - ram it home and shoot the bolts. The solution for me was to change the ship view to the ISS, and hit the...

    Question birthday present.

This is one of the most destructive things you can tell yourself about you. Don't ever say it even in jest or if it feels like it's true. Instead focus on what you do have to give that others may find valuable (like some other folks suggested) - and get creative, there's no particular reason...

Flight Question A safe manual reentry with XR2?

As Urwumpe said, it depends on your velocity as you enter the atmosphere. Let's say you've just undocked from the ISS (i.e. you're roughly 300km up, in a low eccentricity orbit). Burn retrograde until your PeA is between 50 and 60 km or so - I've found that this generally lets me have the ship...

    News Delta Vee!

This seems to me to be the salient point that needs to be made on this thread. For the rest of the "goto" argument, are we drifting towards going off topic?

    News Delta Vee!

Howdy. Perhaps you've figured this out already, apologies if this is the case. For this sort of thing, rather do everything in one case: string exit = "EXIT"; string continue = "CONTINUE"; string yes = "YES"; Then when you need to compare input to those, you convert whatever the user typed...
