Sandra Bullock in space (still from Gravity)

Photo - isn't that outfit a bit more revealing than what's normally worn? :hmm: Might be fun to nitpick all the errors that are bound to be in the movie! First nitpick: stinky bare (and cold) feet! In the NASA photo galleries they're always wearing socks.

    Hot star viewed as dimmer?

I came across this page at Orion's Arm describing how an extrasolar planet's star of a different spectrum might appear to human eyesight. Would a hotter star that had more light in the UV appear dimmer, as stated in the article?

    ISS to Mars?

I was reading this old thread and wondering if it would be hypothetically possible to send the ISS - or part of it - to Mars! I am doing a story where an "interesting" (i.e. alien) artifact is discovered orbiting Mars, and Russia decides to get there first by whatever means possible. The...

    Rant Space Cadets

"Space Cadets" - great blog entry by sci-fi writer Charles Stross on how unrealistic the typical image of "pioneering space" is (namely that it will be a repeat of the settlement of the American West, but with spaceships!).

    News Too fat to fight?

"US youngsters are too fat to fight, warn generals" - Rising rates of obesity among young Americans could undermine the future of the US military, two retired generals have warned. Question Secret space mission

Would it be possible for a government to launch a manned space mission in secret (i.e. not informing the public, though other governments would know)? Just curious (for a story idea).
