ALIEN 2.0... IN SPACE, NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM....

A New Version of the Alien Add-on Pack:

New attachments points for shuttles so you can land with them attached!
*press "a" on Nostromo, then select shuttle to attach / detach by L-Shift NumPad 4 or 5, Then press L-Shift NumPad 0 to attach or detach, remember to press "a" on Nostromo again when done to exit the "attachement function".

New Textures
New Meshes
New scenarios
New Configs (planets and vessels)
New Sound: Back-up Sound/Vessel/ambient1 if you don't like, and turn off radar ping.

by cmoon55 (Zeta 2 Reticuli system, Refinery, Derelict, alien eggs), Roadware (Nostromo), Abraham Katase (Narcissus & Face Hugger) Sean Kennedy / Treybor (Spacejockey) & Franz Muenz / AN][ARES  (Alien Warrior) ** I had to reduce the poly count on several models, sadly reducing their beauty & detail but it was neccessary.
 
This Add-on is both a set over vessels AND a solar system. I have attempted to replicate /  produce an orbiter-version of the vessels scenery and situations seen in the Original ALIEN film of 1979.

KNOWN ISSUES:
 
Still some frame rate drag especially with lower levels of ram / slower processors but not as bad as before.

WILL over-write meshes and cfg of old vessels but will NOT over-write scenarios or planet cfg's of previous version, I changed the file names there.

SPECIAL THANKS TO JIM icarus_at_home for his advice and support!
 
Please report other bugs, or ideas for how to improve the vessels etc... especially if you know the solution : ) to the comments section for this add-on package.

everytime i run a scn with the alien in it orbiter crash's have all the add-ons instaled but still crash's

RE: Alien causing orbiter crash

I'm far from being an expert in interpreting the orbiter logs. Off the bat I don't see anything in the log to indicate why it would crash.

Can you open a 'non-alien' scenario and then go to the scenario editor and add the Alien to the scenario to test what happens? remember to name the 'spacecraft' as "Alien" then select the Alien from the list and add it to the scenario to see if that works.

The "ummm Brett..." scenario is simply two Ummu's watching as an Alien warrior races across the tarmac straight for them. I started the Alien moving, paused the scenario then saved it so that when it's opened, you see the alien racing at you.

The "lucky star" scenario has a Ummu called "Ripley" held in place by the Universal cargo add-on inside the airlock of the Narcissus with the Alien positioned floating freely in space inside the airlock right in front of her. I set it up that way so you can simulate ejecting the alien out the airlock by using the vessel remote control with the send key to press "K" to open the hatch and them press the main thrusters to accelerate the shuttle away making it appear as though the alien in being blown out.

You're right! The Alien is the cause of all the crashes!

It's just like in that Movie!:blink:
:camera:Whenever The Alien is on the scene nothing can match its hostility!

Look! In this screen shot of the notorious "Lucky Star" scenerio, you can clearly see The Alien grabbing for the controls in a savage attempt to crash it!!!

But seriously, is anyone else havinbg issues with our hostile hitchhiker? It loaded fine on both comnputers I tested it on with relatively fresh installs so the fact it's crashing someones computer wants to get all Ripley on its butt!

Heh, I'm very happy with this addon. Yep... the Nostromo was a spaceship that I really would fly. ;)
Only thing I don't like is the slow RCS (or does someone know how to modify this? :yes: ).

Hi Pinguinboy,

I made the RCS slow for two reasons, 1. the Nostromo is the size and mass of an Aircraft Carrier (realism) 2. increasing the power to a more "fun" rate means the linear thrust in RCS is way over powered and makes it nearly impossible to manage docking via the Nostromo.

If you look in the Config/Spacecraft/Nostromo.ini file, you will find a line that refers to ATTITUDE THRUST, increase the value there by a factor of 2 or 3 and save it. I know that the PMI values have an effect on rotational rates but don't seem to affect linear motion using RCS so I resorted to a lower Attitude thrust setting to allow for better docking control.

I'm bothered and sorry there is this kind of "BUG" (pun intended:facepalm:) I noticed the "Mesh not found" I think this is likely the culprit. I'll double check the files I uploaded here, one more time, on a totally clean install to see if I can replicate the issue. HANG IN THERE GUYS. I'll do my best to get to the bottom of it and update the add-on package accordingly. In the mean-time enjoy the rest of the scenarios etc...

OK I have an explanation / kinda solution to the BUGGY Alien scenario. Orbiter decided it didn't like loading a scenario with the moving Alien, It seemed to crash also because I had the camera focus from the 'cockpit' POV of a Ummu without its suit, when I tried other combinations it worked better, OR maybe as mentioned above it takes more than one load attempt to get it to work... WEIRD. I never did have a problem with "Lucky Star" I checked my logs and no mention of a missing mesh either, and this was on a fresh clean install with only the required add-ons and the alien add-on, nothing else, so I'm at a bit of a loss to explain your problem. I'd too like to know if there's something I can change to get better performance for EVERYONE.

Thoughts from those with more knowledge???

Anyway I've changed that scenario to a static loading situation focused externally on the Alien, so try loading that and see if that helps. If it crashes for you again I can only think there is something incompatible between your computer / system and the Alien file, which would be extremely weird, but it's all that's left if this still crashes for you.

This is a wonderful and fun add-on!

This add-on puts to good use many of the amazing features of Orbiter in some really fun ways! Like "press F3 to select Alien Egg, then press G to give Kane a nasty surprise" or "Get past the alien, get the cat, get into the shuttle, retract the bay cover, undock the shuttle, move down to clear the refinery and punch the retro boosters!" all before the UCGO Demolition Charge goes off with spectacular effect! What Fun! A neat combination of spacecraft operation, exploration and adventuring that I haven't felt since AMSO!

I finally managed to land the Nostromo on the moon Triton :lol:

again...
Great addon! :thumbup: :hail:

I think now we only need:
- Nostromo, Narcissius cockpit
- Textures for the landing zone and Narcissius. Perhaps better textures for alien derelict.
- Nostromo spacesuit modells

Yeah if you want to find better textures for the derelict and add sounds etc PLEASE do. If you want me to apply the textures I can help, OR if you want to post the files as a separate add-on go ahead. I'm now in the middle of a large 2001 & 2010 Space Odyssey add-on. Just need to either make or get permission to use meshes for: Orion III, Ares IIC, Clavius base. I have Discovery, pods and Alexi Leonov Monliths etc almost done. Oh yeah I need a good mesh for the Wheel station but waiting to hear back from Spunik on his meshes otherwise I'll keep looking or resort to making them myself which I'd rather not mainly because I don't feel confident in my own modelling ability to do it justice.:thumbup:

are you thinking of making aliens aswell. When orbiter battle simulation comes out it can be used by the marines.

When Bishop gets torn apart on the ship the queen can be a ucgo cargo and the walker a ucgo car aswell which will grab the queen.

just some ideas if you do make alien's.:thumbup:
