The shadows look just cool, but it is not Hollywood. Michael Bay would have done it different.

It's such an unreal moment. But this may be due to the fact that I was waiting for such a moment to happen for more than 15 years (since I became interested in NASA and its manned space flight). Can't wait to see that beast lifting off the pad...

Why did NASA build a 300 foot tall home pregnancy tester kit?

Okay, I'm still not quitte clear on this mission.
I understand they are going to launch this broomstick the 27th to test aerodynamics etc etc.
But what happens during the actual flight ?
Is it going to LEO or simply parachute down into the ocean ?
Is there any stagging going to happen ?
Is the escape mechanism going to be tested.

In other words, after they blast this thing off, what will the actual flight profile look like ?

Basically it is a test of the first stage only. The rest is just ballast and will splash down in the Atlantic Ocean. The SRB will be recovered. Suborbital only.

Although for you anti-Constellation people, here is a picture for you:

Recommendations for the Ares program, brought to you by anyone with an IQ over the average of a NASA employee.

Nah, just kidding. But seriously, if we hate Ares, we're free to do so...

As much as I prefer DIRECT, I'm just glad that something is happening at NASA.
