Sorry to ask the same thing over and over but...

Someone said to launch and then head 45 degs up and take a heading of 90 (East). The autopilot still won't let me do that. I've turned it off and still can't make that turn. I've run fast forward until the ISS is going North-East, (or passes right over-head) but still, the auto-pilot heads me West.

Someone said there was a Launch MFD - is it in DG?

Also, the AF: when you turn a plane to change heading the plane rolls a little. Does this sim do that? I end up rolling the opposite way. While turning right, I get a roll left! (I'm using the keyboard.) Same with the RCS, I want to rotate my heading 180 degs to fire my main engines in the other direction and my pitch and roll go crazy.

The first scenario shouldn't have so many hurdles. Actually, I don't have anyone looking over my shoulder telling me what to do or not do. I just found this and am running it solo. Still, it took me a day to figure out that there is an auto-pilot running. Why is there no auto-pilot light/button? It should be flashing somewhere.

So, how do I get the right heading after launch?

First off, welcome to the forums :welcome:

Secondly, which craft are you using? The stock DeltaGlider?

There is something drastically wrong if you input a left turn and the craft banks to the right, there is some amount of adverse yaw, but not anything to the extent of what I think you are describing.

To launch the DG to the ISS you need to do your takeoff roll and turn to a heading of approx 42(ish) degrees. Then pull up to do the climbout. At around 35 or so Km altitude start to level off. Maintain around a 5 degree up angle and your horizontal speed will increase, then it's just a matter of maintaining until you get to an orbital speed. This is all in the Orbiter manual... If you download the DGIV it has some pretty sweet autopilot modes that will get you to orbit hands free.

Are you using a laptop? That might be some of the trouble with the inputs. I flew with a keyboard for years until I bought a joystick; only to find I only use it (the joystick) for a few minutes while I'm in atmospheric flight.

Hi Mipada and welcome aboard, captain. If I were picking a first mission, it would not be trying to get to the ISS. Not saying you can't do it, but there's a lot of orbital planning needed to align planes and sync your orbit. Do this instead: Google for Orbiter Go Play In Space. It's a bit dated but still rock solid on the fundamentals. I seem to recall it starts you on the Moon, because it's easier to learn with no atmosphere to get in the way. (Weird I know, but it'll make sense really quickly.)

On Launch MFD - it's a one of thousands of addons that community members have written to augment this environment. You'll find most of them (not all) on OrbitHangar.com. The usual method is to download these to a directory, see what the package looks like, and generally just extract all over the top of your Orbiter directory (assuming it looks 'normal' - i.e. you see Config and Modules and Doc etc in the top of the zip file structure). When you run Orbiter.exe again, you'll see new modules to select - in this case LaunchMFD, and you can then select it inside the simulation.

P.S. Phantom - me too, until you and I discussed teardrop turns and circle to land etc. using a joystick. Don't think I could go back now, so thanks my friend!

P.P.S. Get a joystick for Orbiter, then use it for Elite: Dangerous. Double win!

OK. If anyone else finds this later... there is an autopilot running that points you Westish, not East. Click Pro Grade and it will turn you in the right direction. :) I guess the game depends heavily on autopilot.
I'm writing a flight-sim and do everything manually. Now, I can get to orbit on my terms.
I found a link for Launch MFD. Here it is again for someone that is searching for it.
[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2802"]Launch MFD - v. 1.6.3 for Orbiter 2010[/ame]
I'll look up Orbiter Go Play In Space, too.

Thanks for your help.
