Although we would possibly be within our right to use them (Fair Use policy), knowing how they are treating pirating at the moment means that it will be safer not too copy the ships.

Now that I think of it your probably right. I do think however in a situation like this certain laws should be re-written. Not like any of the people here will be doing anything other than promote the film.

I definitely agree to that, it's pretty retarded how they go after people who aren't making one cent off their product.

They want to be able to sell anything connected to the franchise. While movies have always been like that about their vehicle designs, its gotten pretty rediculous. Plastic scale model companies used to be able to turn out kits of military vehicles without needing a lisence from the mfg. But then I think during the run up to the F-15 replacement competition, one of the 2 competeing designs sued a model company for making a replica without a lisence. I can't remember who it was, but I hope it was the looser.

Avatar - Shuttle and Interplanetary Ship

Guys there is nothing wrong with making those ships from scratch.
Just don't sell them.

There is no breach of law, not in common law anyway.
I would love to see that shuttle and main ship in orbiter, it will certainly freshen up the orbiter fleet instead of looking at rediculous Star Trek stuff all the time.

They just don't do Orbiter justice.
Sorry, as for intellectual property issues, I think it is silly in our monetary system the way we copyright things to the hilt.
It's only going to start more wars.
We should share our knowledge and technology and stop trying to make a profit out of it.
Cetrtainly some good lessons to be learned from that movie.
But it is jsut a movie, and meshes in orbiter are just meshes in orbiter.

Since an Avatar addon would be free, couldn't it be considered free advertising?
Think about it. Someone downloads the ship pack, and thinks "Wow, what a cool ship design! I should see this movie!", therefore giving the producers more money.

Here are items I can thinks of for an Avatar theme:

1. An Alpha Centuari System including moons.
2. ISV Venture Star fleet, there are 12 of them. It's structurally similar to Deepstar.
3. Valkyrie , the ship similar to XR2 but in larger scale.

Actually all of them can be made by modding existing mods!

Actually the ISV is more similar to the "Valkyrie" concept (not the shuttle from the film, I'm talking about the interstellar relativistic vehicle). It, for example, has the propulsion units in the front of the vehicle.

Is it possible to properly simulate helicopters in Orbiter? I have heard Orbiter only supports rocket propulson.

Orbiter can support rotor vehicles in Orbiter, just as it can support ground vehicles and propellar aircraft.

It just isn't native support.

Maybe get with the guys on the Project Gemini to see how they did it, they have a helicopter used for capsule recovery. Not too hard to fly either.
