The German Army managed to lose 6 million face masks in Kenia.

Reminds of that time the Swiss army lost a tank without even noticing... :shifty:

You know the old German army joke?

The winners of the tank camoflage contest shall fill out the equipment loss form until tomorrow.

(The other platoon during my basic training managed to lose a MG, while we had to search the forest for hours because we lost a small muzzle brake during training. And we had been evil. We claimed we found it after three hours digging in the summer sun.)

The limit on more than two persons sounds familiar here.
Under Portuguese Fascism (before 1974) any gathering of more than two was considered a crowd, therefore forbidden ;)

Animated bar-graph really shows US cases going up.

I've made a spreadsheet which calculates the coefficients for the trendlines of new deaths per country. The calculation works with new deaths per 1 million of inhabitants. Also, the day number is measured since the day the country had the first fatality.

This caculation shows that the top of the worst hit countries at this moment are Spain, Italy, Belgium and The Netherlands. UK and Germany are not as bad and the USA comes after most European countries.

Looks like the USA are becoming the new hotspot, if you pay attention to the recent doubling times:

https://blog.datawrapper.de/weekly-chart-coronavirus-doublingtimes/

But Israel is also looking bad, they overtook Germany in the past 5 days. Hong Kong is rapidly going up, but that is no surprise since they quickly locked down their town.

Many years ago when I was having a drinking party at home with friends, we had a good laugh when someone put my vacuum cleaner inside a garbage bag and used some tape and paper to reverse the air flow and used it to inflate his air mattress.

I know it's ridiculous. But abandoning the elderly to die due to lack of equipment in retirement homes is ridiculous too. So I am wondering if vacuum cleaners could be used as a ventilator, if you somehow could attach one of those 3D printed valves to it.

What are your thoughts about this? Is my imagination running too wild now?

To reduce the number of people on-site, ESA Operations has placed four space missions into safe mode:

  1. Cluster
  2. Trace Gas Orbiter
  3. Mars Express
  4. Solar Orbiter

I would not like to blow air into an ICU patient with collapsing immune system, that is not sterilized to the highest possible standards.

Also, it is about oxygen content. Producing large amounts of gaseous oxygen in homebrew P2G systems could be maybe helpful.

Possible epidemic of hantavirus

People claim that another virus is outbroken on Wuhan, the Yunnan province of China, hantavirus! Fortunately, it will no longer become a pandemic, as the entire world is locked down.

For NL, today is the 19th day since the first death on march 6 and total death is now 276. The population is 17 million, so that's 16 deaths per million.

Italy had their first death on february 21. 19 days after that is march 10. On that date, they had 621 total deaths. With a population of 60 million, that is 10 deaths per million.

That is not looking good to me.

Isn't Hanta spread by rodents, not by humans? If so, a lock-down especially in low-hygienic environments might actually accelerate an outbreak of it.

Here today we have 2362 cases, up 302 from yesterday.
That "only" a 15% increase, not bad, but still to soon to say if the isolation measures are being effective. Let's hope so.

The winners of the tank camoflage contest shall fill out the equipment loss form until tomorrow.

That's... actually almost what happened. It wasn't a camouflageexcercise per se, more like a big maneuver thing, but one of the tank groups received orders to camo their tank, then later were called somewhere else, and since nobody talked about their tank again they assumed that somebody else was assigned to retrieve it.
A week later a farmer called the ministry of defense and asked when the hell they intend to get that tank off his lawn

Well, at least then our cat might be useful for once in its life...

With the closures and restrictions it feels like every day is Sunday.

Doug Adams said:
In the end, it was the Sunday afternoons he couldn't cope with, and that terrible listlessness which starts to set in at about 2:55, when you know that you've had all the baths you can usefully have that day, that however hard you stare at any given paragraph in the papers you will never actually read it, or use the revolutionary new pruning technique it describes, and that as you stare at the clock the hands will move relentlessly on to four o'clock, and you will enter the long dark teatime of the soul.

I hope those volunteers don't end up just getting infected and spreading the virus further.
Many of the cases here are from doctors, nurses and policeman (this thing is highly infectious). Even with proper equipment, you require training to stay safe.
