I flew one of the best missions of my Orbiter career last night. I started off from Wideawake in an XR2, and after a beautiful ascent, I was in orbit in record time (managed to keep the SCRAM going for longer then I ever have before). Once there, I did a bit of thinking, and decided that I had enough fuel to go to the Moon. 2 days later, I'm in Lunar orbit, aligned with Heinlein.

I had been curious to see how LOLA works with the XR2, so rather then land manually, I decided to experiment. Turns out it worked fine, and I landed softly on Pad 3. Taking off after a refuel, it was time to return home. Most of my trips will end up back in Earth orbit, but I've been messing with Re-entry lately, so I gambled with my crew's lives to see if I can successfully re-enter, or if I've been lucky.

Long story short, I popped out of the atmosphere almost ontop of Wideawake, and a few minutes of menuvering, and the last of my SCRAM fuel later, I touched down with a vertical speed of 4 m/s, on runway 30L

Looks like I finally have re-entry down. :speakcool:

well done, it took me a while to get re-entry down but once i enlisted the help of aero-break mfd every ones been a charm (down to mach 1 just over the cape).

like everything in orbiter you just have to practice, and yes you may kill hundreds of astronauts in he process, but im sure there more than willing to make that sacrifice.....proably.
