You've lost me there Ghostrider! I'll have to go back to the novel
I read H.P Lovecraft, enjoyed all of it, and Edgar Allan Poe, and HGWells....scary stuff in all ways.

Only film version I know was the Black/White one done in the late 50's early 60's. Dosen't appear on the telly much, should get a DVD of it before the nitrate disintegrates;).

I'd be surprised if they did a remake, it wasn't a cheery film, not a happy ending. Quite powerfull at the time.

Afghanistan? WTF!?!
Not really much of a surprise if you don't let presumptions lead you by the nose. "Antartica's" current position and ice cap is a relatively recent occurrence. Also glaciation is likely to have accentuated mountain building not reduced it.

So the mountain range may have been there at some pre-Antartic era, and drifted into that position?

Most probably. Antarctica is one of Earth's primordial continental plates. It has drifted around like the others since the planet first cooled. So between continental drift and perhaps "pole shift" (a more contriversal theory that Earth periodically tips on its axis) the place has a much more interesting history than as the snow ball we see today.
