I've seen references to that show in various places, including this forum. So, about a couple of weeks ago, I decided to see it on Netflix. I'm not into westerns, but I could watch a "space western." It wasn't just a space western though, it was way more than that: a cast of unique and intriguing characters like River Tam and exciting plot lines. The "used future" aesthetic was implemented very well, and I loved the design of the Firefly-class transport vessel. Unfortunately, the TV series got cancelled prematurely, which I have learned was due to FOX badly managing the series (like airing the episodes out of order). The movie (Serenity) was also great.

So, have you seen Firefly?

"burn the land and boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me..."

Yep, and agree with you on all counts!

Can't stop the signal...

"Man walks down the street wearing that hat, you know he's not afraid of anything."

Big damn heroes! Ain't we just?

You buy this ship, treat her proper, she'll be with you for the rest of your life.

I was setting up some email filters the other day and called one of them "the special hell" - this is a place for those people you've contacted who just won't take "no, go away" for an answer.

I got me a Jayne Cobb hat. Wore it to work a few times and heard that in the hallway. And I named my Mosin Vera ;)

What'd y'all order a dead guy for?

Only saw it recently myself and loved it.
I'm left with the feeling it all came to an end too soon though

I watched it a few years ago (maybe 5-6). TV stations rather prefer doing re-runs of the Serenity movie every few months than re-runs of Firefly at least once every few years.

You can get the series on DVD, or binge watch on Netflix. We've got a dude at work that speaks Chinese (several variations), he's a second generation immigrate, and dude that guy can cook!

Anyway, he helps me work on my Chinese phrases from the show, and it made him a fan as well.

You can fly a Firefly in Orbiter...or at least you could on a previous version. I've not checked to see if it works on the latest (not beta release).

It does suck that the show got cut off so early, but look at the bright side: we got a good wrap up with the feature film, and we didn't have to suffer through a long decay as the show struggles to keep going and the actors get tired of doing it. X-Files is the prime example of a show that should've died a few years before it did.

What we have is 14 solid episodes of Firefly plus a great movie, and none of them suck. There are comic book continuations written by Whedon if you care to keep going with the story a little. I'm okay with that.

I love the show for its frontier themes and the strength if its characters; you really do get a sense of family in Mal's crew. And of course the dialog is witty and hilarious. Then there's the made-up dialect and slang. Also, the fact that Whedon tends to stack his shows full of hot girls doesn't hurt either.

Mal: "Jayne, I just want you to scare him [the agent who shot Kaylee]"

Jayne: [holding a bowie knife] "Pain is scary."

Yeah, if it had kept going on and on, the quality might have decreased.

But there are probably shows like Deep Space Nine (it's what I watched before this) which don't start off great but improve in the later seasons.

Yeah, I just did a search at a local auction website and there's even quite plenty to choose from (even in 1920x1080 on Blu-Ray). But somehow around half of the search results for "Firefly" returned "Castle" instead.

Nathan Fillion makes lots of Firefly joke references on Castle. He's on record as wanting to do more Firefly stuff.

I would've liked to see them do another movie, but it's getting late. They have all aged more than 10 years now so if it ever happens it'd be a different vibe.

I never seen firefly but I may start watching it now.

I noticed [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=5758"]this add-on's[/ame] easter egg a while back. Clever use of a backronym, too.

And he recently did, alongside the rest of the cast. They have provided voiceovers for the upcoming MMO "Firefly Online".

And yes, our favorite tacky shirt wearing pilot is doing fine, thank you very much. ;)
