I need permissions to use Orbiter 2016, InterplanetaryMFD, AerobrakeMFD for commercial purposes (teaching at a private university)

Orbiter 2024 is giving me problems. No HUD data. Tried installing DX9 library, using H and CTRL H and nothing works. So I would need Orbiter 2016.
I also need Aerobrake MFD to land at a surface base.
I also need InterplanetaryMFD as it is more intuitive than TransX.

Where do I ask for permissions to use these? They are not under MIT license. So I need to go one by one asking for permissions? Where?

That permission could only be obtained from the Doctor himself, since it's his license. Haven't seen him around here for some time, but he does drop in every leap year or so...

Meanwhile, I am not entirely convinced teaching at a private university really qualifies for "commercial use" in the intent of the license. As long as no money is payed for tutoring with the software specifically, I at least would not expect objections, since education is one of Orbiters purposes.

Any other opinions here?

One thought, though: Intuitive is not the term I would use to describe IMFD. It is easier to use, yes, because it does a lot of things on its own. As such, since we're talking about teaching people, working with TransX will teach them a much deeper understanding of what's actually going on.

I'm not a lawyer, but generally "non-commercial use" covers education, even private education.

I think the spirit of the license is aimed at prohibiting:

• Selling Orbiter install or Addon disks/downloads
• Selling a service directly related to Orbiter (micro-transaction/sports betting addon, other absurdities)?
• Using orbiter specificially to advertise or sell a product.

Use of Orbiter and addons to demonstrate a principle in a classroom setting is fine.

I say this partially from a common sense reading of the T&Cs, as they're clearly written to prevent the the above points, not what you're try to do, and partially because I know of many instances where Orbiter has been used in education, it's been talked about a lot on this forum, and no one has ever had a problem with it.

I am not sure if it isn't a fringe case, see below. The licence at least asks for asking the copyright owner (Dr. Martin Schweiger) for permission first in that case.

You will not use Orbiter or any parts of it to advertise, promote, present or sell any software or other product or service without explicit prior written permission by the licensor.

Anyway, I am a bit torn. Martin Schweiger isn't really active in the Orbiter Community today, but he still is active in medical research in London and you can easily find his current contact data. I don't know if he really "checks his mails" in this community today or does not want to be disturbed at his professional work by it. So, reaching out there feels to me like friendly kicking in doors.
