Software Initializing 3D hardware failed error in Win 10

I just installed Orbiter in Win 10 and getting the Initializing 3D hardware failed error if I click Launch Orbiter button. Is it a directX problem? Initially directx7 check failed.

Make sure you set your 3D Device in Video options to Direct3D T&L HAL and that Always Enumerate Devices is checked. If that still doesn't work, please post the contents of your Orbiter.log file.

DirectX7 is very old for Windoze10.. not surprising it failed.
What about DX9,10 or 11 (although Dx7 should be part of even Dx11 - according to the COM directive ??)

Could be you need to update your DirectX version ?

The built-in DX7 client works fine for me on Windows 10, and I have not read reports of it not working for other Windows 10 users, so I would expect it to work provided that the video settings in the Orbiter launchpad are correct. :)

Hi....

Rather than starting a new thread I thought I would post here.

I have the same problem, GTX 980, all drivers up to date and using windows 10

I have followed your directions above and still the same problem.

Any ideas ?

Same issue here. I have a EVGA GTX 980 TI graphics card and Windows 10 64 bit. Software drivers, bios, and Windows 10 all up to date. Contents of orbiter.log are

I tried running as Administrator and double checking my DirectX installation. They all seem fine, but cannot get this version to run. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Crash on launch

Same problem here.

I also note that when I run Orbiter it disables true type fonts which I then have to re enable. I have tried full screen and windowed in many resolutions with all video modes and just occasionally it works but it seems random. What I have managed to glimpse is very impressive which just makes it more frustrating not being to get it running.

I have a Ti 980i and haswell-e processor so specs are up to date.
