Moaning about the weather

We barely drive in weather like this, because most people have problems digging out their own cars!

Well it is not big problem at all, from my point of view it is much worse when cars engine can't start up, because it is like -35 degrees, just like now :hmm:

Been waiting for Heathrow to work since Saturday. BA has re-booked me for Wednesday. Might jack it in, get a refund and a train, if they are still working.

Just heard on BBC London(who have now got thrown off the airport!!) that they aren't allowing anyone into Heathrow unless you have a confirmed departure. Thats the flight, not just a booking, or a on-line check in.

I think there's going to be a right dust-up over the state of Heathrow.

N.

Trains here are meeting with similar disruption, sadly. I think they're running, but slowly.

What it looks like out of my window This morning.

The current state at noon...sorry for the southern line of sight, but I would say, the black-white contrast has not become worse than reality.

snow.... wow! lots of snow!

while you complain, mind i telling you that back here on the other half of our beloved lump of sun-orbiting rock, it's 38°C and i'm bloody melting.... what i wouldn't give for some snow right now....

not that it ever snows in São Paulo... it just rains... a LOT......

hang on, let me turn on that air-conditioning....
*bzzzz..hummmmmmmm.......* ahh... much better now...

i always prefer the cold.... one can always add more layers untill warm again.... there's only so much clothing one can REMOVE whilst remaining socially acceptable....

someone in the Simviation forums once asked, "why is there no random-weather settings for FSX"? - to which i replied... well, when you live in São Paulo, real-world-weather IS random.....

bah... i cease to make sense again... it's too damn hot to think.... :focus:

The former really works with real-life clothes at temperatures still above -15 centigrade, I think. To stay really long outside in a real cold, you need an external heating source, no matter how well you insulate yourself. :)

An advantage of heat over cold is that human-killing heat is more difficult to find on Earth than human-killing cold. But still, cold is more preferable for me too.

So does this mean that every russian orbinaut has the right to slap everyone else with the trout of jealousy?

Yes...most of the time. Until we are talking about the price tag.

I was not able to get much, it looks like the batteries didn't like the weather.

I often get that issue in winter. The key is to keep the camera in an inside pocket :P

Or better in a special pocket. The batteries of my mobile phone also fail often during very cold weather, just an inside pocket is not enough sometimes.

Yeah, sometimes exposing the camera to cold wind is enough to deplete the batteries.

Well, those russian pics are obviously impressive, but I'm eagerly waiting for a canadian counterstrike

Perhaps I've calmed down, or just cooled down? Either way, I'm fed up.

The snow here is so thick!

101220145502.jpg

It's piled right up the side of our house! We can't get out!

The vehicles are all buried under enormous snowdrifts.

Okay, so there hasn't been much snow yet. The grass is still green here, though it's -15C today.

We had some freak warm weather and rain a few days ago that melted the foot or so of snow that was on the ground. We don't usually get hilariously large drifts blocking our doors until January.

I can see the snow, its really deep!!!

N.

Maybe I should get out more?

I love the snow, Schools closed :)

BTW Izack. I don't know how you can get out of the house with the snow.

Izack: Is that a huge glacier hiding behind the trees, or how did you edit the photograph to hide all the snow?

Still not very cold here in the Houston area...
A couple Christmases ago, it was about 80F. :P (and that was a couple weeks after snowing more than in our history O.o And a couple months after a major hurricane.... Damn Texas is weird)

I'm just back from St. Petersburg, and I must admit that they've beaten us at snowing:

And, despite courageous but sporadic rapping efforts, icicles are taking over the city:

The locals are talking a Russian language with somewhat odd wording, and unlike the rest of Russia who dismissively call an icicle sosool'ka, the proud citizens of Northern Palmira respectully address them as sosoolya.

Somewhere they really touch ground, but I was too busy maneouvering between piles of snow in such places, to use my camera.

So does this mean that every russian orbinaut has the right to slap everyone else with the trout of jealousy?

Sorry, I'm not really getting the thing about trout. :idk:
