Based on the Favorite Rock Band thread, what about a thread for your favorite artists regardless of musical genre? Artists which aren't internationally known are specially interesting, and bonus points if they are from your home country.

Also post one or two of your favorite songs or compositions from each artist.

I'll start with an assortment of the musics I've been hearing lately:

  • Antônio Carlos Jobim
  • Kalafina
  • Olivier Deriviere
  • Origa
  • Monoral
  • 樹海 (Jyukai)
  • Сплин (Splin)

Don't know of too many artists that others don't, but I've always had a thing for mood music

David Benoit, and this is one of his masterpiece

Another from the same artist

What I think is Prince's best song :D

Definitely the Heiress of the throne Whitney Houston left empty

I really think this is actually one of their best songs can't help to have the urge of jumping around whenever this got played

After hearing this you can't help but feeling that the record version is "empty"

and people always think that they're a pop-rock band ;) I like how they can mix up Rock and Country

Richie Sambora, Bon Jovi's guitarist, probably the most underrated talented guitarist ever.

What I think is the best version of the song

I won't post any of their eternal hits here, you guys would've already known them all

I don't know of many pieces of music that really stand out from the rest of them, but this is one of those few that does, by miles. I was first introduced to it over a year ago and I feel it really should be passed along.

Sadly this is the only recording I've ever found of this particular performance, and its been split in two but its well worth it, especially part two which is just pure genius in my opinion:

Without further adieu; Béla Fleck & The Flecktones

Part 1:

Nativismo, music genre of southern Brazil:

And, of course, the best classical pieces ever written:

Os Mutantes, the best brazilian band ever.

Some english versions:

Live in France:

Rare color footage:

This video has crappy quality, but the performance and the song itself are AWESOME:

I've never been a fan of John Phillip Sousa, but I was browsing through Wikipedia and ran across his [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transit_of_Venus_March"]Transit of Venus March[/ame], which was composed for the 1882 transit. I normally would have ignored it, but given recent events and the context of this forum, I thought I'd mention it here.
