The first space game that I loved was Frontier Elite 2. Although I discovered it in a bargain bin after my Commodore 64 and Amiga days, it was originally released for the Amiga. I have Frontier First Encounters as well. Since they're now freeware this link should be ok to post here. Haven't tried it yet, but it looks really promising.

Also, look at the machine you can play it on. Hook it up to a new TV and you're good to go!

Ahhh, the new good old days...

I still own a Commodore 64.

I downloaded it and ran into graphics problems. I tried various resolutions and with one exception either the buttons on your dashboard for you ship were missing, or on the one resolution that worked it ran off beyond the boundarys of my monitor.

I may give it try again later on but if all else else fails I have it for my Amiga emulator.

I downloaded a bunch of EliteRu music a while ago. I didn't realize it's the same game as Ffed3d. Great stuff for orbiting! I'm going to have to check this thing out. The Viper sounds cool, but I want to get back to hauling my Asp.
I had a Commodore 64 which I gave to my daughter when I bought an Amiga 500 which I gave to my daughter when I bought a 286. The new "Commodore Phoenix" is actually a re-branded Cybernet, but something about it makes me want it!
